Actually, the current Fit has quite a few options offered in Japan that arent offered here in the states. Fits elsewhere have a gas door that wont open unless the key is in the ignition for example. It doesnt have to do with the year the car was designed but more with the marketing strategy that US Honda is working with.
US Honda in addition to other manufacturers believe that people stateside dont want to pay the premium for options in lower model cars.
