We are not babying it at all but I am happy with the MPG.

First tank was 29.779 all a/c mix of city and highway.
Second tank the car reads 35.3 all city but I will check this when I fill up at the same pump a second time. I think the Car computer might be a bit optimistic.

Yeah, they tend to be optimistic for the most part I've found. My wife's prius reads 1.5MPG higher than what the actual MPG is.

We don't cover incidentals, so keep your ass out the minibar!
My last fill up the computer said 38.5, while my conventional calculations put it 4 mpg lower at 34.5, which is interesting because my first fill up was 39 for the computer and 35 conventional method. So far they're consistently 4 mpg apart.
Currently I'm at 35-36, but that's all commuting which is mixed driving, mostly city. I know I'll see that increase to 39 or so once this coming weekend over.
FYI, I'm currently close to 800 miles on the odometer which means I'm fast approaching 1,000 miles where I can give her some beans and see what she's got. I kinda don't wanna do it though because that FE reading is looking right at me when I'm driving and it really makes you want to do whatever it takes to keep that number high. Maybe after 1,000 miles I'll switch it to the oil life reading, lol.
All this is encouraging. Even if the computer is off a bit, it's still seems better than the estimated mpg. Not sure why it would be off so much, but good for us!
Jeeze, I'm pumped. The '01 Passat and the '99 Jeep both have mileage calculators, and they pretty closely followed what I calculated myself.
Hoping for more of the same.

first tank in town a/c on 36.6. Car computer said avg. 40.2
So far both my theories are looking good - 09s have better mileage than 08s, and avg mpg readout is consistently 4 mpg higher than manual calculation. Good to know we're all getting excellent mileage, and the engine still has to loosen up for even better mileage.
Hope the mileage minder isn't truly off by that much; not especially useful if it is.
As posted above, it is my impression that the mileage calculators on some other vehicles are more consistent/accurate than calculating it yourself; you're not affected by how full the tank may be.
