I thought you guys might like this article. It compares the Prius with the Fit. It was in the Vancouver Province today.

Here's a few quotes for the busy people:

But the Prius lacked a certain fun factor compared with the Fit. Another colleague said to me: "You don't drive the Prius; the Prius drives you." It's a very apt description of my experience.

On the Fit's plus side, we have respectable fuel economy, a smallish carbon footprint, a lot of room for the driver, passengers and cargo, a comfortable ride, a long list of safety features and an attractive design, which I like better than the original Fit's boxy look. It also feels sporty and is a lot of fun to drive. And, of course, there's the price - $14,980. One could buy two Fits for the price of one Prius. And, considering the tough economic times and the cheapest gas prices we've seen in a while, the Fit makes a lot of sense.

If you're looking for outstanding fuel economy, the Prius wins hands down. If you want a fun ride at a cheap price, the Fit is your top choice. It was mine.

Just look at all the rebates Toyota is putting out, practically unheard of ten years ago.

All car manufacturers are hurting. Last July I took a $140,000 buyout from GM, and in less than seven months time, they're offering another attrition package and the terms are $20,000 vehicle voucher and $20,000 cash, a total of $100,000 less in compensation. Some of my coworkers were calling me stupid for taking $140K and rolling. I wonder what they're thinking now?

Also, the Fit has slightly more overall space than the Prius. Yet the Prius is 14" longer.

Latest published info says the plug-in Prius due next year will have EPA ratings over 60 mpg. The new Impulse is built on a Fit chassis and in intro runs to car reporters the Impulse got 55 to 70 mpg with handling pretty much that of Fit. The 'official' EPA ratings of the Fit/Impulse are 41/43 and the price less than $19k
