anyone lost or had to replace a key yet?

I lost one on vacation and was quoted by the dealership roughly ~$110 for the replacement. The dealership also mentioned the Fit wasn't eligible for the cheaper replacement key. Does anyone know what the two keys were and if this is true?

What was the dealer's definition of "cheaper replacement key?"

they talked about a $40 "dumb" key. But gave me the typical speech about how they'd have to look into it but then said "oh no, we can't do it". I should have gotten some more information.

You're answer is here, however, it still needs to be cut and programed to your car's immobilizer, so the dealer will get their cut one way or the other.

Well I temporarily misplaced mine... as I'm sure we all do... drove me crazy looking for it right after I just got it.

It sucks as I have to keep both of them with me at all times... cause my regular keyring is too heavy to use in the ignition. (It will work, but it's not good for the car to use a keyring that is too heavy.)

Anybody find a good "key locator" unit yet?

Its the same reason why the fit doesnt have a VALET key, its too expensive to produce, so they do not add it.

I thought a "valet key" was a key that allowed someone to drive the car, but denied access to the trunk and glove compartment. Since the Fit is a hatchback and has no glovebox lock, what would be the purpose of a valet key?

What? A valet key is a plain flat key without a plastic head...it might cost several cents to make.

I couldn't have said it any better.

When I had my keyless entry programmed, they programmed my two original keys into the system as well.

So, now I have four keys for my car, two with keyless entry remotes, and two just keys.

This may not be relevant to the Fit, but when I got a new key for the civic, I went for the cheaper ($45 so not cheap) option which was a key without the integral fob, or even a separate fob. It allows me to drive, open and lock all doors, glove box etc, so not a valet key, but doesn't operate the door locks remotely (obviously). I guess that might be what they were talking about as a cheaper option

You are serious? Like how many pounds are we talking here? If that much then it is affecting your gas mileage as well.

I had them throw in up to 2 free key replacements per year for 5 years when I bought my car. Cause even after time the keys go bad themselves.

So what I'm gonna do is just every 6 months just go and say one got busted, so I'll have a stash of them

This is true, but you can still have a valet key even though it is a hatchback. The Scion TC has a valet key, even though the car is a hatch. The extra costs comes from programing the key, not making it. They need to reprogram all three keys in order to add just one valet key.

They would also need both remote keys at the time so they can reprogram all three keys (2 factory and 1 valet) to match your Fit. Also sounded like it was ~$50 to do the programming plus the cost of the key, which I forgot to ask about. I would like to have a 3rd key, so eventually will probably wind up doing this.
