On the fence about coils

On the fence about coils
This seems to be a repeating issue on the FORUM. I guess I want advice on - replace coils or not.
1. I don't drive this car much, no long trips.(Store, Church, food)
2. 106,000 mi now.
3. Valve adj and plugs @ 100,000 Mi, I preformed.
4. Looks like original coils. They are clean and don't look corroded.
5. 87 octane
I get a "miss" now and then, not often and happens at random.
NO CODES are present.
NEED ADVICE PLEASE.

do it
With over 100k on them....I'd replace the coils, keep the original just in case, and replace the MAF sensor as well.... purchase a can of maf sensor cleaner and clean the original and store it with the original coils packed with bubble wrap in the spare tire well....
I learned my lesson after my sensor went out and left me stranded on the highway. By the time I was towed to honda, they dragged me over the coals to the tune of $500 (when I could have gotten by with a new MAF sensor or a can of cleaner to clean the original).

the sensor
hmm....not sure if its called the MAF or MAP sensor but it should be on the top of the filter housing.....so there should be overhead room.
On my 2009, it is located just after the filter housing cover, connected by 2 phillip screws diagonally apart from each other. I if you purchased that sensor cleaner spray some on the screws to loosen things up without any errant drip-downs from compromising the sensor (no wd40)
try to get a different set of phillps, they can strip if the head you are using doesnt match up 100%.
Good luck.

Sounds like you bought cheap coil packs from eBay at first and now went with the proper coil packs.

My wife's 07 Fit also had a random occasional idle misfire. The car threw no codes nor did the check engine light illuminate. This went on for over 10,000 miles until it became worse and the check engine light came on at approximately 63,000 miles. The car's computer then indicated every cylinder randomly misfiring. My neighborhood mechanic suggested replacing the engine computer with a used on that he purchased from eBay. After programming the new computer the idle misfire remained but only on the number one cylinder. He then replaced both the coil pack and the plug on that one cylinder and the misfire is a thing of the past. BTW he didn't charge me for the coil pack or spark plug and the computer replacement was less than replacing all four coil packs and plugs.
