What Maintenance Can I Do Myself?
I know nothing about cars. But I figure there's some maintenance I can do myself to save a couple bucks. I'm going to attempt to change the cabin air filter. What else can I do?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Checking tire pressure, transmission fluid level, engine oil level and brake fluid level would be good. Changing your own engine oil isn't difficult and may eventually be your gateway to doing other maintenance. Though, if your Fit is in warranty, my personal preference would be to take it to the Dealer for servicing to give greater assurance that all maintenance has been properly done in case warranty issues arise. Great that you plan to change the cabin air filter -- you'll save a bunch of coin doing that.

These days, YouTube is your friend.
SEARCH for the task you want to perform.
Also, a Google search for DIY: xxx might result in some step-by-step directions.
If you have a friend or family member who DIYs auto maintenance, ask them to supervise you!

Great advice. On another automotive forum for another brand, I read of someone wrenching on their starter motor thinking that it was the oil filter!

Hi eekmamba. You say you do not know anything about cars, but at least you understand something about general mechanics? If not, I advise you to attend a course in basic mechanics of cars/engines to learn how a car works, the various tools, how to use them, etc. If a person understands nothing at all about mechanics and cars, I think it is difficult and even unsafe perform services in vehicles, okay? But do not be discouraged. Car mechanics is a pleasant activity and can also saves a lot of money.

I think you should learn how to repair a flat tire. Get a tire repair kit, always have a pump in the car - just for those unexpected times when you pick up a nail or something. Flat tires have happened to me several times and the repair kit saved me! Plus, my wife is not as contemptuous of me any more when I fixed her flat tire the other day. Take that modern day marriage!
