can fog lights be DRL???
Hi everyone!!
I got a GE8 sport model
I like to install HID for my headlights
I like to have the fog lights turn on automatically every time
when I start up the car, it will serve as DRL (day time running lights)
this is the by-law in my area, you must have DRL active or else police will ticket you
I like the headlights to remain off (by default - the factory setting is to turn on headlights as DRL when engine start up)
until I turn on the light switch
seems like some major wiring need to be done
and I am not sure how to do and maybe not possible.
If anyone done something like this before, please let me know

It appears that the DIY you are referring to has dissapeared. If you can find it and provide us the link/info or recall how you did it. It would be great and rep will graciously be given out. I know a few of us are looking for this info. Thx

There was a DIY link for the GE but it's gone . I know quite a few have this fog light DRL set up with their GEs and I hope someone that has done it steps up to the plate to help us out.

I know this friend he said he knows how to do the wiring but he is too damn busy...
he owns a repair shop and I don't mind paying him $50 to have the wiring work done
it is too complicated for me to tackle.

the problem is we are unable to track down the link .....
my friend who owns a shop is super busy and not responding my call
here is the situation with my car
I got a red wire somewhere in the engine area and my friend said this is
connected to the ignition...
he said he would open up the fog assembly and wire 1 side to the ground
the other side to this red wire....
then the fog will turn on automatically when the ignition is on
I am no electrical expert here and I don't have a clue how this work
don't want to short out my car
if this sounds simple to you, can you help us?
can pay you to do the work.

it sounds like every time you turn on your car the fogs will turn on correct??
they way mine are set up is that i can turn them on with the switch without having my headlights on
i can run my car without DRL and fogs being on
if i where to wire it id like to do it this way only cause theres a external fuse linking to your fogs if something goes wrong that fuse will blow not anything else

yes, I want the fogs to act as DRL,
whenever I turn on the engine, regardless the headlights
(don't worry about the headlights, they are already wired up correctly)
the fog will turn on, when I turn off the engine, the fogs should shut down.

I'm saying that if u wire up te fogs the way your friend wants to do it
Your interior switch won't work anymore
The fogs will be controlled by your key
You could easily do it yourself by taking the power wire from the fogs and run it to the ignition slot in the fuse box

Don't need LED strips, fogs will be sufficient, unless you want the LED strip look.
Fitster simply is saying that your interior switch won't activate the fog lights funtion but instead they will come on as you turn your key (perfectly fine for DRL use).
The headlights will still be accessible and function fine with the interior switch (on/off/high/low beam) as before.

that is exactly what I need, I don't care about the interior fog switch anymore
just want to be legal.... got to have the DRL.
I don't want LED strip look, too complicated unless the LED is inside the headlight
I called up my friend Ming, he is in HONG KONG now WTF.....
Fitster, can you do the wiring for us please?
I don't want to wait for a month for this Ming guy ......

Hello guys
I installed H4 Hi/Lo HID in my Fit, and I deactivate my DRL (pulling out the FUSE)
Now my DRL is working in my Turn Lights, I'm using the a SWITCHBACK Bulb (gives 2 colors WHITE and AMBER)
DIY - Front turn signals as DRL using SWITCHBACK leds
It will give you an idea what you can do to have the DRLs working on your FOG lights.
You can use the add a circuit in the DRL fuse to trigger a RELAY that will ON the fogs is very easy. (I recommend you to use H11 Relay Wiring Harness HID Conversion)
If you have questions, just post a message in this thread and I'll answer as soon as I can...
