DIY Rear Diffuser

I was admiring Konig_Feather's Fit at the last HellaFit Meet, and noticed that the rear bumper of the "base" Fit looks quite nice without a Sport Lip. After studying Henry's Fit for a several minutes, an idea hit me! With a little bit of imagination, I envisioned my GD3 with a Rear Diffuser on it!

It took me a day or so, but I eventually figured out a simple way to fabricate some "strakes" to give my Fit, a decent looking Rear Diffuser.

First I made a pattern out of cardstock, then traced it onto some plexiglass.

After cutting the plexiglass, I riveted it to the bumper.

After riveting them all in place, I masked the bumper and sprayed it flat black.

Here's what it looked like after pulling off the mask

Here is the result

My next project is to fabricate a bellypan to cover that open space just ahead of the diffuser.

bad ass creativity skills. i'll hook u up with some rep.

i saw on the dip your car forums, people would put some chrome edging around the "diffuser" and dip over it to make it pop more.

SUPER simple, easy.... and maybe even effective!!!

MAN I wish I could do this for AutoX... BUT It might be worth it to just remove the rear Sport lip... Once I saw the way it looked on Konig_Feather's Fit, I had thoughts too! Without the lip it looks like it might actually let air come out and not get trapped under the rear bumper...

For the "belly pan" look up something called "alumalite." You could most likely just add an extended bolt to the spare tire carrier and attach it to that from the bottom....

Higher Resolution Pictures...

I posted this thread really, really late last night, and put off fixing the "thumbnails" til today. I discovered that the pictures I posted last night, were of very low resolution. I was just too tired to fix it at the time. Anyway, for those that are interested, here are some of those pictures shown in higher res.

I was going to keep my GD3 but it wasn't practical so I sold it back in 2010. I took most of my mods to my GD1. I have been driving the GD1 since 2010. Yes, in Brazil it is still called Fit. This 1.4 DSI engine is pretty good...got excellent gas mileage - perfect for city driving.

You guys are lucky...imagine you have to pay $32k ($38k last year due to exchange rate) for a brand new Fit Sport (exclude tax and license)! But you don't have to do "JDM conversion" Excellent work BTW. You got a market here

Thumbs up great gosh o' mighty that's cool!

This is the best home made mod I've seen here. I'd love to know how you measured the cardboard.
Did you use a band saw to cut the plexiglass? & what was the tooth per inch on the blade? what is the thickness of the plexiglass?

+ rep to ya!! If we still did that, haha.

Great results! I bet there's a few gd3 drivers behind ya going where did this guy buy his bumper????!!! Great job macbuddy!

Paper template, Plex cutouts, instructions sheet I'd be paypaling ya macbuddy.

Big Mike.

I need this done to my GD3 as well. Let me know!!!
