Question Front Grill Lights to Ambient Light Switch

Hey people, this is my first post. Been reading a lot on DIY projects but I haven't found an answer to my question yet. I have an Ambient light kit installed on my 2010 honda fit, and I wanted to install exterior grill lights that can connect to my internal ambient switch located on the left side of the steering wheel. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I have a mugen grill, so I already installed the light (blue led strip) behind the grill, but it's connected to the parking lights and I installed a switch behind the grill as well. I want to put the switch in the car next to or connected to tha ambient lighting so I can control it from there instead

Don't wire that to your ambient light kit. If you have blue lights like that on the outside of your car you are going to get pulled over for them. The only way to wire them to the ambient lights would be so both are on or both are off. That way you won't be able to use your ambients because you can't use the led in the grill. You could wire a switch for them inside the car and you would do it exactly the same way you did the one under the hood.

My advice (without trying to be a dick) is to get rid of the light altogether. It's just a reason for someone to pull you over and those lights tend to be unreliable and just end up breaking/burning out. You don't want to have stuff that isn't even going to work in a year or two wired into your car.

…and, that stuff has been out of style since about 2002

True, good advice. Generally If I did want to have a switch to control any type of exterior light, how can I get wiring from inside the car to under the hood?

You just have to go through the firewall, follow the other wires that do and route the wire with those.

hopefully you've figured all this out by now, but i don't have much else to do. so here's an answer for you. the firewall is the piece of metal between the engine bay and the passenger compartment. there's a wiring harness coming from your battery through the firewall above the gas pedal (maybe about a foot up). the wires are all taped up and its shoved through a rubber grommet. you can squeeze another wire thru there. it's not difficult, just takes some elbow grease. this is where you'd put a power wire through for amps, etc too if you ever install a sub.

Never followed up on this, but that is a great reply. Ive abandon the idea of controlling the blue light for the grill from the inside, but in the future if I ever install other lights to my car that I would want to control from inside the car, now I know. And I don't think it's out of style, just looks stupid to add grill light MOST of the time.

The exception being if you drive a police car.
