Thanks Stacey14. I had not seen that, but took the time to read the entire long saga. Very interesting. I thought I knew a little bit about car sales work (had a friend who sold a couple years) and I've bought maybe a dozen new cars myself over the years. Pretty hardcore, good perspective. Thx!

the issue of Car and Driver with the small car comparison (now on newsstands) also has an interesting story on car dealers worth checking out

I read through that article in the past and its a good one. It should be required reading for anyone that is in the market to buy a new car. It helped me gain some insight as to how to deal with dealers.

phillyb - How did you feel about it? Was it a true representation of the profession?

(even though the question wasn't directed at me ) if you google "confessions of a car salesman" you can find a complaint or two from actual car salespeople that say that things are much different when you're actually doing it for a living. always good to look at the different sides of an issue.

neither of the dealerships that were described in the article are like the dealership i work at. the high volume high pressure place...that's terrible. the other place, that's wack. i work honestly and i work hard. there are dealerships that do all that crap that the first dealership described. but you have to understand, every place is different. and it's only a few places and people that ruin the entire reputation for the car business
