Can I fit an Ikea Sectional?
We have a lot of members here and Ikea is a fairly popular store so I wanted to ask if anyone has happened to fit an Ikea Corner Sofa/Sectional in their 2nd or 3rd generation Fit. We're looking into trying to fit an Ikea "Ektorp" sectional, here's the link if anyone else owns one. The listed dimensions are for three packages plus the cover. Two box of the dimensions are 36 ½" x 16" x 60 ¾" and one is 36 ½ " x 27 ¾" x 36 ½." I'm not sure the 36 ½" x 16" x 60 ¾" box can fit into the car, but the third should be no problem. Last year I fit a screen door at an angle in my MY '15, which was about 36" x 80" x 2". I have a couple large boxes that I think I may try to mock up the size of the shipping dimensions If anyone has this setup, are the boxes much larger than the components inside?

I think it should fit but without much extra space (with the back seats down, of course). From memory, the 2nd generation hatch opening width is about 38" and the length between the hatch and the back of the front seats is about 5'. Probably the easiest way to find out would be to take a tape measure out to your Fit and measure away.

You def got to measure. I recall you have exactly 60 inches front to rear, it must have been a design spec or maybe just luck ... the 36 inches is what has me concerned.
On another note I once unpacked a heavy ikea box in the car. Mistake. Lots of wee bits inside, all of which need to be carted in. Just my two cents

Thanks. After making mock up boxes we decided if we were to use our Fits, each could have fit one large box and the third, smaller box would have had to go on the roof rack. We ended up borrowing an MY 2015 Odyssey and it all barely fit. The three boxes fit fine on the floor, but in order to close the trunk we had to move the center console and slide the front seats forward. They didn't have to go all the way to the front, but enough that it felt good to put them back after unloading. I can say that this first weekend of ownership, it's quite comfy. I certainly hope it lasts and that our dog doesn't destroy it too quickly. For the price, I don't mind having to replace it in 5-7 years if it's worn out.
