Keep the CRV or buy a FIT????

Hey All,

My commute is about to lengthen from a 30-minute daily commute to a 90-minute one.

My 2004 CRV EX (50K mileage) is paid off, but I am strongly considering trading it in and getting the FIT.

 Your thoughts?

Jeannie

I'd keep the CR-V for a few more years now that it is paid off. The fuel savings won't justify the cost of the new vehicle, unless you can get nearly what a Fit costs for your CR-V.

What Viamede said; keep the CRV for a couple more years. The next-generation Fit (probably '09 or '10) will have a newer more efficient engine, and by then there will should be more choices and competition at the efficient end of the market.

Ditto. I wanted to ditch my gas-sucking Jetta VR6, but any way the numbers were ran, it was cheaper to drive the Jetta while it didn't need repairs, than to buy a new car.

Maybe a cheap older used car with good mpg might fit the commute bill?

I actually sold my 1997 CRV privately for a very good price and used that to pay part of the Fit. The MPG was killing me on the CRV and it was getting on in years where it was starting to need some work. In my case it made sense to sell it before it started breaking down. Like some others have said, it might be better if you hold off a little and just see what the next generation looks like in case you prefer that, if not, you could probably still find this generation around then.
Either way, good luck and hope the commute isn't too too terrible.

I should also mention I just had to have two parts replaced - an emissions sensor and a detector unit?

It ran me almost $650 for the two with parts and labor. :(

I know my CRV has almost 50K on it, but I have never had a vehicle have some type of problem along that magnitude so early on in years and mileage.

Hence another factor I need to take into consideration I suppose...
