Question High-pitched grinding from left-front wheel

Hello everyone. New here but lurk occasionally. My Mom bought a 2007 GD in 2013 and I'm commuting in it right now because I can't afford a car of my own yet.

Almost 2 weeks ago a high-pitched grinding noise started coming from the left-front wheel when I turned left above 20km/h. I have experimented and found that applying brakes will make it stop while they are applied. It will also happen when in reverse going either direction, but only at full lock. It has gotten worse and now happens almost constantly at highway speeds, only ceasing when I turn right. Sometimes I can get it to slightly improve with a "firm" press of the brake but it always reverts back to how bad it was. I tried googling but have found nothing except "clicking" indicating the CV axles are going, and this isn't that. I looked around the suspension today and couldn't see anything blatantly broken, but I'm no mechanic.

Sorry if there's already a thread for this, I looked for a while but couldn't see anything.
Thanks for any help!

Just a guess but probably CV or a really weird wheel bearing going bad behaviour. Another guess might be something stuck/rubbing against the rotor.

Cracked or de-laminated brake pad or wheel bearing

Check your brake pads. They might be hitting the metal tab a little when you turn. Might be time to replace them.

I have the same issue. I have checked the rotor and don't think the heat shield is conflicting. It is not concerning to me yet but i am planning a brake pad change to see if that clears it up. If not will need new rotors too.

Id check the dust shield/backing plate near the balljoint. mine was bent on the drivers side and when turning right it would rub the back of the rotor and make screech like a pad indicator. or could also be number ours other things.

If youre able to, jack up that side of the car and rotate the wheel and steering by hand to see if you can isolate where it is coming from

I did that. No scratching rotating by hand. Good practice if you are troubleshoot this issue tho

Yea that was general advice than directed at your post. It took me like a week of speculation (and getting it wrong) before I finally put my car up and was able to figur it out in like 5 minutes. Derp.

Still here. I won't have an opportunity to work on it for a while though. Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions!

+1 on the dust shield. Honda makes crappy shields and all my Honda’s had the issue.

Check to see if there is a pebble stuck in that dust shield area. My wife had this happen on the autobahn and pulled over to call me. Everything worked as it should. I started asking where she could have been driving and she was in the backroads of Belgium. Tons of rocks. And it was a rock.

Hey guys, thanks for the help but I'll probably never know. She has insisted on taking it to a shop instead of getting me and Dad (master mechanic) to look at it for reasons I don't understand.

The inspection takes about the same time it takes to read all this (censored) thread.
It's amazing how much effort is needed to discuss something simple like removal and installation of the wheel and brake pads!
On the positive note, 95% of discussed issues here are the minor ones, which prove that Fit is a quite reliable car!

Wasn't trying to clog the forum with a fluff thread. I just have no means of jacking it up to check myself and wanted some ideas as to what it could be.
