Front Left Clunk

There is a clunk coming from the front left of my car. 2009 Sport AT 130,000 miles. I first noticed it when rolling forward, stopping and reversing but couldn't replicate that. Then it was occasionally happening over bumps but not very consistent. We thought maybe endlinks but slaloming the car produces no noise. We finally found that making turns with the wheel cranked to the left at slow speed (like pulling into a parking spot) always makes a clunk, sometimes multiple in a row. Did not try with wheel cranked to right. I've read a little about steering racks not being tight enough but most of the posts indicate the sound on the right side of the car. Any ideas of what to check would be greatly appreciated.

Have you actually taken a look under the car?

When I drove a Nissan Pathfinder before buying my Fit, it had a loose end link that had popped off. Once I turned the wheel to full lock, it would clunk very loudly.

As for my Fit, it has a worn end link (front right) that clunks. I confirmed it by grabbing the end link and shaking it when the wheels were off. The front left side doesn't clunk. But, I ordered parts to replace both sides anyway.

Actually, parts are here, but I won't be able to do anything as I'm about to go out of town for most of next week.

i would recommend disconnecting or removing the sway bar link and going for a test ride.

you might be able to disconnect it at the sway bar vs the strut and zip tie the dangling end to something. personally i just pulled the whole thing out. if you havnt removed them before, do yourself a favor and pb blast or wd40 the nuts, and wire brush the threads before attempting to remove. it will take an extra couple of minutes now, but if you strip the 5mm hex it will cost you a lot more time, and possible damage to the endlinks if you have to grab them with vice grips.

i replaced mine with beck Arnley Pieces ( # 101-6929 ), they have a surface on the back to grab with a wrench.

Good luck!

I would recommend that you get yourself a nice small vise grip and don't mess with the 5mm hex key and 14mm wrench to remove the nut off the end link. I just replaced the end links on my daughter's Fit and after monkeying around with trying to remove the nut with the hex key and wrench and plenty of PB Blaster, I grabbed a pair of vise grip, crank down on the rubber boot that covers the ball joint and went to town with my cordless impact. Less than 15 second and that nut was off. Did the same with the other three nuts and had both links replaced in less time compare with trying to use the hex key and wrench.

I've already replaced it not too long after that posting.

While I do have impact tools and a had a fairly small air compressor tank for it, the outlet control knob for the compressor tank failed the moment I tried setting it up exactly for that.

So, I just used a dremel to slice the nut open.
