TPMS Sensors in Indirect TPMS Wheels

Just bought complete set of Honda steel wheels, covers, and tires from a 2016 Fit LX. Everything in as-new condition, even tires are barley used.

However, my 2008 Fit Sport uses direct TPMS with in-wheel sensors ... and 2015+ Fits have indirect TPMS. Even the seller, who also has a 2018 Odyssey, didn't know about his indirect TPMS autos!

Is it possible to install 2008 Honda TPMS sensors into the 2016 Fit wheels?

You should be able to install your 2008's tire pressure sensor into the GK5 LX's wheel. Doing so would be much like putting the same TPMS sensors in aftermarket wheels without the indention in the wheel for the sensors. I'd recommend having the batteries checked and getting new seals for the sensors before transferring them. The last thing anyone wants is a sensor failing shortly after install or a slow leak due to an old seal.

Also, 2018 Odysseys (as well as Ridgelines, Pilots and the new Passport) do NOT have indirect TPMS. They still have an actual tire pressure sensor in their wheels... They also have a pretty nice alert system that chirps/beeps to let you know if you still need to add air, at right approximate pressure or over inflated during pressure adjustments as the vehicle runs or the key is in the on/run position..

Thanks for your insightful reply, Hootie.

I'll need to purchase new sensors for these wheels and the original 15x6 Enkeis. Will 2009-2013 42753-TR3-A81 sensors work with the 2016 steel wheels and, for that matter, the 2008 Enkeis? All Fits prior to 2015 use 315 MHz sensors but there may be additional compatibility issue(s) between 2009-2013 sensors and the 2008 TPMS system.

What do you think?

As for your correction re 2018 Odyssey et al, I only repeat what the seller told me after reading his Owner's Manual.

No worries on the Odyssey comment(s).

As for the part number you provided is not showing as compatible with the 2008 Fit via the Honda parts catalog. Not sure if its a slight variation in signal broadcast or some other conflict that could cause this even if they are the same frequency; however, what will for sure work is 42753-SWA-306.

What you may be able to do is get a set of OEM Honda sensors for one wheel set, purchase an aftermarket set of sensors and have the Honda sensors ID's copied and programmed into the aftermarket sensors. This way the TPMS see the same sensor IDs and reads the pressure accordingly as well as prevents you from having to have the TPMS system reprogrammed after wheel swaps if your goal is to keep the TPMS light off.

In addition to that, you may be able to acquire aftermarket TPMS sensors featuring a rubber valve stem (like that of non-TPMS wheels) to fit in the steel wheels better than adapting the OEM sensor and its nut/grommet combo.

Cool TPMS Sensors Installed

Purchased OEM sensors at the dealer ... 42753-SWA-316 .. along with new washers and nuts as recommended by their [extremely knowledgeable] parts advisor.

Had the dealer install and initialize them in the '08 15" Enkeis along with new Continental Control Contact Tour A/S Plus 195/60-15 88H tires from Discount Tire. We also tried the sensors in the 15" steel wheels and they clearly did not fit; would not lie flat against the wheel as they do in the Enkeis.

So, back to square one or sell them to a deserving 2016+ Fit owner.
