Stock airbox mod *first post!*
Stock airbox mod *first post!*
Hi everyone! I've been lurking through this forum for months now and thought that I would contribute one of my mods that has been working better than I expected for my fit. I did this same mod to a 2002 1.8t Beetle and it made a significant difference in that car. More significant than a $400 aem intake made on my 5.9l Dakota!!
I essentially bored 2 1.25" holes in the bottom of my airbox, then ran 2 18" lengths of 1" I.d. heater hose down behind the foglight and grouped them inside of a 4" length of 2.25" I.d. hose.. My biggest reason for using the bottom of the airbox for my holes was to try and preserve as much of the oem "chamber" as possible. I tried using 3 hoses, but there was a loss in low-end torque and throttle response. Now I feel gains across the entire rpm range, plus there is minimal difference in noise! I've been driving it like this for weeks now, and the ecu doesn't seem to mind either. It drives as well, if not better, than after i reset my ecu!
I'd post some pics, but seeing everyone else's cars on this forum makes me ashamed to live where I do! Most of my car is sprayed with rust protectant right now cause our highways are basically salt flats until spring time!!
I hope this post isn't out of line with your forum etiquette. It's been a lot of years since I've been active on any forums, and I'm eager to become a part of your community!
Peace
Jamie
