Other owners thoughts when upgrading to a newer model.

Shoutout to my 2007 Fit Sport that I traded in for a 2016 Fit EX a year ago. I actually really miss the simplicity of the GD Fits. 20 less hp but it was just as quick. The GD's truly felt like go karts compared to the 3rd gen models. The old 5 speed manual revs the same at highway speeds (approx 3,500 rpm at 120 km/h) as the new 6 speed manual. In this sense I was a bit disappointed with the gearing of the new 6 speed manual transmission.

Was anyone else left a bit underwhelmed/disappointed when upgrading to a newer model?

Yea, the automatics were geared differently. From what I understand they had a higher gear ratio to provide lower RPMs at highway speeds for better fuel economy.

They took the 5th gear and made it the 6th gear and added a gear in between 4th and 5th. Not really sure why they went that route.

Yea, doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. When I heard the 3rd gen had a 6 speed manual I was really hoping for low revs on order to increase hwy MPG.

Most people think that adding more speeds to a transmission is for lowering RPM, ...no so....it may happen, but it is not the purpose, .. it is simply to provide more choices within the same range of rpms.....in other words, to try providing more the right combination for any situation at any speed, and ideally the choices would be infinite, like a continually diameter changing pulley, not steps.

....the first generation Fit was accused of been twitchy...which in the USA is like saying 'dangerous'...I call it fun and entertaining. I have not driven the 2nd or 3rd generation, but understand they have been "softened", to make them 'correct', and believe they are getting bigger and heavier.

......I personally like best the styling of the 2nd generation, which was crispier and still could be identified as a Fit at a glance, but the 3rd generation looks bloated, heavier, beginning to look like a crossover, and invisible. .....have to look at the badge to know is a Honda, let alone a Fit. ...

.........the talk about the styling is strictly my taste, of course.
