Fit transmission compatibility?

Hi all I drive a lowered 07 Honda Fit daily as my 93 civic progect collects cobwebs. The Fit has developed an issue with the transmission. It wont even get into 5th anymore and reverse only works once in a blue moon. I have tried topping off the transmission fluid which was real low and it did not fix the issue. I'm trying to locate a transmission that I can purchase and transport home over the weekend so I can get the new transmission in asap which is proving difficult because lots of things are closing over the weekends now.

My question is: What type of swapability do Fit parts have? I know most Honda engines are "like leggos" in that many things can can be fitted to many other things that did not come in that configuration stock but I have heard that fits are diffrent in that reguard. Would I be able to use a manual transmission from a difrent trim level like the sport model or perhaps a newer model like the 09?

I know that the sport and base manual transmissions are the same.

but I am unsure about the GE trans being a straight swap (I kind of doubt it)

I've heard of Kits to put K20s with their transmissions in the Fit. If that's unrealistic, why not just get a used transmission off of Ebay or local used auto parts shop?

Check your shift linkage first. With the car off, have someone shift into and out of 5th and reverse and watch the linkage for signs of looseness/disconnection. Another thing to check: Clutch slave cylinder; Check around it for signs of leakage.

This issue doesn't sound like something that should require you to replace the transmission.
