Rpm going up and down after valve adjustment

Hello I am new here.

I followed a YouTube guide on how to adjust valves. 2008 fit with 198,000 miles. I felt that the valves needed to be adjusted. I completed it today however when I went to put the intake manifold back on it was sitting too high. So I forced it. Long story short I got everything back on minus a bolt in the back for the manifold to engine (where rail line clips on) and intake as it sits higher. Now when I start the car it revs by itself. For example if I put it in drive it seems like I am feathering the pedal when I am not. Please help as this is my daily !!!

I can speculative that you got either a vacuum leak at manifold mating surface or bumped into the throttle plate. If you have US made car you need only to remove intake plenum (plastic) leaving aluminum intake at engine
Image of the damage from forcing manifold into the place is helpful

I didn’t get a chance to look as I had to work the weekend but I did notice the plastic piece from intake to a hose into engine is damaged.

Definitely a vacuum leak. Don't force anything on these cars. They are designed very well and go together very easily when everything is in the correct location. However, the parts are not strong. Can't treat it like a '70's Domestic. Parts break easily, but also fit together very well when done properly.

I put an attachment up of a damaged plastic connector piece from intake. I had put in a reply but says needs to be approved by moderated first.

Connectors from side of intake into the head of cylinder cover

Ok got everything back on correctly no idle issues. However! When I go to accelerate like a normal person or just hit 3k rpm it bounces up and down. Similar to hitting red line. Auto transmission so now what?

have CEL on now however I don’t have a obd2 would have to drive it to auto zone or get obd2 reader. It goes up to speed but if I hit 3k rpm it won’t go over it. Now does this have to do with the valve adjustment?

That means the car is in "limp mode." That is usually due to a throttle body issue such as the throttle position sensor. Double check that you have all electrical connectors connected.

I would disconnect the battery, go over every electrical connector and make sure they are fully connected and no pins damaged, and then re-connect the battery.

If you still have an issue, you will need to borrow an OBD reader to see what code it shows.

I glad I mentioned this item in one of the recent thread about valve adjustment (as matter of fact, I bought spare for me).
This connector is tricky to remove due to double barb
After 27 years dealing with stubborn old cars (not often now though!) it never hurts to be over-prepared with extra grommets, wire connectors and gaskets on hand. Good old days of "cut with scissors" paper gaskets and tube of red silicone are gone...
You can post picture at the external site and add link.
While it is still possible to read codes with paper clip it's tricky for an inexperienced user

The good thing is that part does not affect the way the vehicle runs. It is just a breather port on the valve cover. You could remove that whole line and put a filter straight on the valve cover and it would have no affect on how the car runs. Unless it's an eyesore to look at for you, I'd just leave it alone

Thanks everyone got her up and running again. Double checked all connectors and one was not clicked in. Everything runs smooth now.
