Steering issues after rack replacement

2008 Fit - I've just replaced a steering rack as the car was pulling to the left. after installing a used rack, i found the steering wheel would then turn by itself quite quickly to full-lock left (turn the wheel all the way right, and it is like a wind-up pull-back car from when we were kids - spins by itself, all the way left). ofcourse i assumed the used rack was just that much worse than the original. a second used rack ended with the same result. i've checked data from the eps using a snap-on scanner and found the offset angle reading 1079.5 deg. i've tried unsuccessfully to reset the the steering angle sensor with my scanner, and using the jumper across pins 4 and 9 which i read on some other forums. i've also tried a second (used) eps module under the dash.
i reconnected the original rack (which was bad, but nothing like the 2 used ones have been), and the offset angle is still reading 1079deg.
really hoping someone out there might be able to point me in some kinda direction... other than left
thanks in advance, IanM

Sorry for reviving this old thread but I'm having the same issue. Tried replacing the rack and module with no result. Dealership said they couldn't even scan it. Did you get the problem fixed?

In my case, it ended up being a bad used rack.
in worse shape than the one we took out.
