Manual Transmission Fluid Change Tips

I'm looking to change manual transmission fluid in my '08 Fit Sport. I watched some tutorial videos and saw people put new fluid in two different ways. One group used a funnel with tubing on the end and poured the fluid from above the engine and another got a pump and put it in from underneath. Has anyone tried it both ways? Which one is easier? Any other tips are welcome too.

I'm cheap and lazy so I did something like this linked below Roughly 25 bucks and has a valve stem so I can put 25 to 30 PSI (try at your own risk) in my contraption from my air chuck.

The "easiest correct" way to do it is from underneath and refill though the fill port if the vehicle is raised evenly. That way you verify the transmission is properly filled to the correct level in one shot versus measuring out approximately 1.6 qts, adding it and possibly being slightly over or under filled.

Just my two cents though!

I used a $10 oil pump (
like this one like this one
) to do it from below. Mostly because I already had it from doing it on my miata but as Hootie says, it's just more convenient and tidy as well. If you don't have the pump I'm sure you can get away with a funnel just fine as well.

I'm not sure how it's setup on the earlier models, but I went with the "above method" using a few feet of clear plastic tubing on my GK5.
This way, I was able to ensure the car was on a flat surface (the ground) and my clear tubing was simply tossed when I was done with it (about $0.30 a foot).
Only caveat was removing the air intake assembly.

If I had to do it again, I'd use this method.

I use pumps that look like
this this
, and I work from the bottom. (Not fond of Amazon, but that's up to you. I used to buy them at Pep Boys.)

The hard part for me is accessing the fill and drain plugs. Not much working room, and I don't use power tools.
