Is there a DIY to program a new ignition key?

Has anyone DIY'd programming a new ignition key for their GD? (My Fit did not come with remote entry... Just the key.) I know is possible for some cars... a friend's 2008 GMC, for instance. Would be lovely if there was a DIY option for Honda. Haven't found one yet. I did search the Forums and Google first before posting; most talk about using the FOB in programming... I'm only searching for programming a key. ...thought I'd ask here.

I know about going to the dealer, etc... Just wondering whether anyone's programmed a transponder key themselves and if so how'd you go about it? Thanks

I'm not sure, but I bet it's been covered before.

Do any of these threads help?

Eh, not dirt cheap, but the programmer can be bought for about $100. Cheaper than what a lot of dealers charge to program a key.

Where do you buy that programmer for $100?

Somewhere a long time ago someone posted links to one he had bought here, but I can't find it now.

Here's a site selling one, although I'd prefer to find the one being vouched for be the person here.

https://tomskey.com/

I would think that as long as it worked as it should, a person could easily get their use of it and get their money back by selling it right here.

Maybe we could keep it in the FitFreak family and keep selling it to each other. Seriously. Use it, then pass it along at a reasonable price. Just a thought.

Are you asking about programming keyless entry? I have a spare 08e60-sln-100 that I pulled from a junkyard. I'd be willing to sell it.

If you are asking about the immobilizer for thw ignition, if you have an old key that is worn out or something, you can cut it open and pull yhe chip out of it an stick it Inside a new fob style key.

I was able to program my new key with my Snap On scan tool. A shop with a decent scan tool should be able to do it.
