I am new to Honda. What websites sell quality upgrade items for Honda? Does anybody have any experience with upgrading the ignition coils on these engines? Are "performance" coils actually an improvement over the OEM or equivalent? My fit has almost 150k miles and I am not sure what maintenance has been done to it by previous owners. I was thinking I should replace the coils, plugs, air filter, change oil and maybe flush the coolant. What else would you do? Thanks guys.

 

Resounding Yes, to all of the above. And when it comes to coils, OEM is best............................ "Performance" usually goes against durability, reliability, and quality.

 

If you really need new coils, the originals are Hitachi. You can also buy Denso, they are Hitachi's in a dense box. About $35+ each, so shop around.

 

Im assuming the coils that are in it are the original. How would I know if I "really need" new coils. I changed them in an E36 BMW I used to own years ago and felt a substantial gain in power.

 

I would also recommend a valve adjustment as I doubt your original owners did that and you’re about twice the mileage where it should have been done. Consider it a once in a car’s lifetime experience!
