Steering effort different left to right

I've seen quite a lot online about 07-08 Fits having complete failure of the power steering, but my issue is different.
Basically, everything feels fine except that the effort is higher when turning the wheel clockwise than counter-clockwise.
The clockwise effort is not abnormal -- I'd say it is within the normal range for power steering generally -- but the counter-clockwise feel is markedly lighter and more responsive.
There's nothing I can see wrong with any of the steering or suspension joints, and an alignment check showed all is spot on.
Does anybody have any experience of this, or suggestions as to the likely cause?
Thanks!

Don't really have an answer, but I also noticed some weirdness with the EPS. It does work in both directions, but it seems like there are some spots in the range where it suddenly becomes harder to turn, before becoming normal again. It's only really noticable when doing full lock to lock turns like during parking, not something that gets in the way when driving normally. But it's really strange and I haven't found what's happenign yet, so I'm wondering if these issues wouldn't have a similar cause, whatever it is.

if it was my car, i would suspect shock mount is worn or binding in steering rack itself. first thing i would do is jack the front to take load off and have a friend start moving wheel left and right. start feeling for clicking or binding in those two spots. gluck
