Second spark plug blowout
Second spark plug blowout
2008 Honda Fit MT with 267,000 miles. Cylinder 3 spark plug blew out at around 200,000 miles and stripped the threads. It was rethreaded to 14mm I believe. It was done by a shop that closed down so I'm not sure the exact method (helicoil, timesert, etc). The sparkplug had a small metal fitting that went around it to fit the new size. Unfortunately the same thing happened again - this time taking out the rethreads. I've spoken to two shops that have said there's nothing they can do other than replace the head or engine since its the second time in the same cylinder. One of them used a boroscope to confirm the threads are stripped. Has anyone had this happen twice and been able to bypass replacing the head/engine? I'm afraid the shops are correct but just wanted to see if there's any options.
