2008 Honda Fit sport transmission replacement

So my dad bought a “new” Fit. There was a noticeable rattling noise when idling but the seller said his mechanic said it was just the exhaust heat shield. I being the mechanically minded son took the heat shield off and found the bushings looking brand new. I suspected something to do with the transmission because pushing in the clutch made the noise vanish.

My dad took it to a place that rebuilds Honda transmissions, the tech took the car for a spin and came to the conclusion it was a transmission problem. Mostly likely a damaged final drive because it made noise in all 5 gears. He said it was fine to drive for good bit longer if we didn’t mind the noise. We definitely mind the noise.

I’m planning on replacing the tranny myself to skip the outrageous cost of labour (nothing against mechanics being compensated for their suffering). I have replaced a transmission on a Land Cruiser, so I’m fully confident this should be an easy enough job. Has anyone ever replaced their tranny? I was going to get a scrap transmission but does it make sense to rebuild it? Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

p.s. Never take a seller’s word for something unless you verified it as fact.
