Hey all - Would appreciate some advice here! I mostly want to make sure that:
My proposal is a plausible repair to try to solve my problem.
My proposal is safe for me to attempt (I am especially interested in this).
I have the steps of the proposal nailed down.
The car: 2007 Honda Fit (Base) with the 1.5L I4 - Manual Transmission and ~115,000 miles.
THE PROBLEM:
------------------------------
Since I have owned the car (3+ years), the SRS light has been on (solid for duration of time the car is on). I looked into it and noticed that the wires leading to the left front crash sensor are no longer connected (see picture). .... Other potentially relevant details below:
To my knowledge and according to the carfax, the car has never had the airbags deployed.
I recall attempting to clear the SRS light with an OBII reader to no avail.
I had all recalls taken care of when I purchased the vehicle. One such recall (campaign KA0) involved "REPLACING THE PASSENGER'S FRONT AIRBAG INFLATOR WITH AN INFLATOR OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN".
THE SOLUTION (I hope):
-------------------------------
From well-rated eBay sellers, I have purchased the following:
Satellite sensor sub-wire (part no. 32118-SLN-A00) ... The wire and plug leading into SRS crash sensor. I believe this is really the piece that needs replacing. I imagine that the actual sensor is okay but purchased one just in case.
Proposed repair:
Disconnect battery and wait 3 minutes.
Remove front bumper.
Replace front crash sensor.
Replace satellite sensor, plugging it into front crash sensor on one end and the engine wire harness (I imagine) on the other.
Reconnect battery.
Turn engine on.
If SRS light does not go off after a minute or so, try to clear code via OBII reader.
Rejoice, ideally.
Would really appreciate your expertise! Thanks! Satellite sensor sub-wire to left front crash sensor connection (severed)
