Gear shift

I have a 2007 Fit Sport, automatic transmission. There is a problem with starting; when I try to crank, nothing happens, but the shifter will go into any gear or neutral and if I run the lever from Park to S and back while the key is turned to start it, sometimes it will start. Any ideas on a fix? I've attached an image of an assembly for sale and see that there is a mechanism that apparently closes a relay. Is there any way to repair it or should I just buy a new/used assembly and if so, how difficult with installing that be? I've worked on a lot of cars over the years, including this fit, so DIY is not out of the question. Thanks in advance for any advice.
