I bought a $1250 5 speed with 140k miles

Got em.

Took it home and torqued spark plugs to 18 ft-lb (i was too scared to go to 21, i will next time i'm in there). The car had no CEL but misfire codes on 1, 2 and 3. Interestingly enough, 1, 2 and 3 needed about a turn to get to 13 ft-lb, so I hope that's why. Definitely doesn't seem to be misfiring anymore, couldn't even feel it on the test drive.

Engine doesn't have a drop of oil on it. CV boots intact. Oil looks good. All bushings are intact, no clunks. Trans shifts perfectly. Has some clear coat fade and a lot of rough spots but I've seen way worse. Interior is perfect aside from a couple stains that look like they come out with a shampooer. Has a cheeky little HKS muffler welded in place of the OEM and shockingly the welds look pretty good. Thankfully it doesn't sound bad, in fact I can barely hear it even with the windows down.

The downside is the input shaft bearing is toast, so I'm going to order that and a clutch kit. Good thing is I've rebuilt a d15b7 transmission before in a 94 civic I had for the same reason, so not really worried about that. If anything it'll make the car worth way more if I decide I don't want to keep it, but I just drove it to work and had the absolute time of my life in corners so I don't see that happening.

I have been bit by the bug!

Congrats!

Wonder if the plug replacement was done by the previous owner and without the benefit of a torque wrench.

These cars will last forever with proper care. I lament my '08 Sport, totaled by a red light runner at 150K.

Congratulations. If rust is not a problem in your area, and you continue maintaining it properly, this will give you at least 200k more miles of pleasent, reliable ride.

Completely concur with the other members. Stay on top of the maintenance and you'll keep the bug and not regret it.
My 2008 Fit Base MT is at the 268K mark. Had to replace 1 starter, 1 clutch and 1 set of front shock absorber assemblies (other than the typical wear items i.e. brakes, rotors etc.). Radio preset buttons are iffy and the TPMS has been on from before day one. But that's to be expected. Enjoy
