Fuel Filter

Our 07 Fit Sport is still missing and shuttering horribly and supposedly not throwing any codes. I am going to change the in tank fuel filter and start from there. It has 118k on the clock.

My question is where do i get the tool to remove the top nut? Can you use a spanner wrench or a pair of big channels?

Disclaimer Not having seen the tank personally:

The fuel pump/filter assemblies I've removed in the past on various cars have been accessible with just a screwdriver/punch and hammer. The ring only needed a quarter turn to get it off. I'd guess that a wrench or channel-locks would work fine, too.

You will want to use a brass/bronze punch st as not to cause any sparks. Sparks and gas do not mix!

its not too bad to change it. i changed it and still have the problem. getting the middle console out was about the easiest i have done. the lid to the filter was a pain though. me and a friend just used two stought screwdrivers and by using the ebrake as leverage man handled it off.

be careful not to bend your fuel gauge sensor arm when taking it out.

We've not seen a Fit with sputter but we still think its deposits in the injectors or valves.
I continue to advise you to run several concentrated injector cleaners thru the fuel systm before going to anything else except cleaning/replacing spark plugs. After that its possibly the plug coils.
If you insist on working on the fuel pump and filter at least check the pump flow and pressure. If they meetr specs I just don't see how the fuel pump/filter is at fault.
to check for deposits on the valve stems check cfmat idle with throttle wide open. If flow is below specs there are probably heavy deposits on the valve.\ that can periodically mess up flows.
At least one poster solved his sttter with new spark coils. Its expensive but since tat affects emissions it should be covered under the 50k federal warranty.

Man i just ran into the same problem last week. Was driving home very close to empty and after filling up and starting the car the next morning it just crapped out. I tried later on in the day and it was exhibiting the same exact symptoms. I replaced the plugs, checked the fuel pump fuse/relay (they looked ok) and was able to get it to start. I still had to keep my foot on the gas until it warmed up or it would stall.

once it was warmed up it held an idle but my a/f ratio was extremely high. I am boosted with the kwsc. i had it towed and it is at my mechanics now. hopefully it is something minor.

Edit: what's the best concentrated injector/valve cleaner on the market right now?

theres a huge tool with fingers that you use to pull the pump, always use a new gasket also

One poster has solved his problem of stutter with new coils. While it is the last thing you want it to be as it is the most costly, at least one poster solved the problem. good luck. Since it affects emissions I believe that should be a 50k warranty issue.
We use a non'alcohol injector cleaner in a tank once a month on all our cars. And trucks,
Especially for track days; may be strictly psycological but car seem to run better with that in the gas.
