Question Finally did it...

Bought an '07 SSM Sport. So far I'm very happy with it but I have a question. It only has 15K miles and is Honda Certified - that works out to 4 yrs/48K miles bumper to bumper and 7 yrs/100k miles powertrain coverage. In a "it's late and I need food" mood, I made the decision to buy the 7 yrs/100k HondaCare extended warranty. It's was an additional $840. Did I pay too much? Do you think it's not necessary since it's certified? Other thoughts?

That is pretty cheap for HondaCare but why did you buy it when you have a 7/100k warranty already? The warranties don't run consecutive.

it's really up to you. i only plan to keep my car another 3yrs and it'll be replaced
so does not make any sense for me to buy extended warranty (on top of all the
modding) but for someone that plans to keep the car for like 10yrs im sure it will
pay for itself.

congrats.

The certified warranty covers only powertrain up to 7yrs/100k, not bumper to bumper. HondaCare covers bumper to bumper up to 7yrs/100k. I'm still not sure I'm going to keep the HondaCare warranty. The whole reason for buying this car was to reduce my overall debt. I have an '05 TSX that I need to sell. I love my TSX but it's only a car. I just hope it sells soon or else the Fit is going up for sale too. HAHA!

How long do you have before you can cancel the HondaCare warranty? I bought the 6 year/100K mile bumper to bumper and I'm not sure if I still really want it. I had it on my '02 Civic and it paid off when I brought the car in for power window motor and gas tank release line replacement. Also helped me sell my car fast.

They told me I have 60 days for a full refund. But the refund will go to my finance company, not me, unless the loan is paid in full. No biggie I guess since it'll decrease the amount I owe. After 60 days the refund will be prorated based on the time in service and if the warranty was used.

If you can get your money back I would. As far as I know, there are no problems with the '07 Fit and as long as you don't drive like a nut, nothing should break.

If you start doing any mods you may invalidate parts of the warranty anyway.

Good luck and post pics of your car.

They where tring to push a extended warranty on to me when I bought my car. Because I knew I would be modifying the I it would be a complete wast of money. So I guess its realy up to you, if your keeping the car stock then it will probable be fine, if your modding it I would not get it.

For the most part you are correct. The only real "problem" I have seen with the 07's is that some have brake issues. The one's I have fixed were usually low mileage and covered under factory warranty.

What kind of brake issues? The brake pedal on the Fit doesn't feel as tight as my TSX but that could just be normal. They are two completely different cars, and I understand that.

But my clutch pedal is the one with the issue (already). It squeaks when I push it in and let it out. The clutch itself feels ok though.

I got a 6yr extended warranty. If I don't end up using it, I get the $ back at the end of the 6yrs. Do you have a similar deal? I figured it was pretty much win-win, as long as I don't use the warranty for a $90 repair or something.

That's what I'm counting on if I don't use it.

LOL! When I bought my car the salesman took me back to this little room and stuck me in there with a guy who grilled me for about 20 minutes; do I want this extra protection package, do I want that price protection something-something. In a "it's late and I need food" mood myself, I finally stopped the dweeb and said, "Look. I don't want ANY of it. I just want you to sell me the car and let me out of here so my wife and I can go get dinner." He was not a happy boy.

The dealers love to get you to buy all that extra garbage. It's almost pure profit for them.
