The middle 3 characters generally indicate the application of the part. PXC for example commonly refers to S2000 parts... SNA, for the newest Civic... Obviously many parts work in more than one line, and there are a number of parts that defy this "guideline." There are even some parts that are the same as other parts which have different part numbers... Kinda wierd I know, but often there seems to be no real sense to the way parts stuff works.

Angry 10 days for battery exchange!

Hi, my car is 07 Honda Fit Sport. The battery died on 1/27/09, it's about 2 years since I purchased and the mileage is about 33000. I thought it was going to be fixed right away, but the dealer had no battery in stock here in Los Angeles, too. The dealer does not offer replacement car, I have been rented a car from Enterprise and it's been 10 days! I called American Honda to have them take this responsiblity, and first they said "send the receipt", and next they said "we have no such policy". This is not my fault at all and nor the dealer's because they've been waiting for the shipment since last November!! Unbelievable. American Honda customer service lady realized the critical situation and she will bring this matter to the case manager, and I'm waiting for their call back. I really can't afford this much expense! Today the dealer finally told me they received the shipment and my will be ready by the end of today. I'm happy I can finally return the rental car, but this is just a beginning, I will fight until they compensate my expense. I'm very disappointed, because I'm Japanese and my whole family has been a big fan of Honda. My first brand-new car was this Fit, and I've been very happy abou it. I thought Honda was a reliable company, but I guess it wasn't... Anybody here has the same problem - meaning renting a car from outside the dealer? I just can't understand if I have to pay for all of this by myself!!

Not REAL cold, but the pest couple of nights were 25 to 30 degrees.
It started this morning. Kinda sluggish, but it started.

Its probably time for a battery. Its been sluggish cranking for a few a month now.

I had to have my battery replaced under warranty (Car purchased 4/1/2008 with only 5,000 miles). Dealership in Dallas Texas automatically covered the cost of the rental car through Enterprise except for the taxes.

Battery

Just use the battery out of one of those "Power Wheels" electric cars for kids. It looks to be about the same size. Just kidding.

It sounds like Honda has a problem keeping Fit batteries in stock. However, I don't think a battery lasting only two years is uncommon. My 03 Mazdaspeed Protege's battery died under 20,000 miles and only about a year and a half old. My wife's 00 Nissan Xterra's original battery died at around 2 years old as well. I have heard form several people that current car batteries only last that long because of all of the electronics. Well, now I know what to expect when I try to get a new battery.

Wow! I can see why you're so mad. That's really insane that they didn't offer you a loaner car for free while your car wasn't operable. The battery is under warranty, it failed, you deserve better treatment. I hope you get your expenses compensated. You may have to be very persistent.

Thankfully, my car was still driveable, barely. I had to run it twice a day to make sure the car would start after sitting overnight. I'm glad I didn't have to try to get a loaner car or pay out of pocket for a rental, since I'd hate to be in your situation.

Thank you for the information, things are making more sense now.

The dealer finally received the shipment of batteries and I got my car back on Saturday. If I had taken my car to the dealer on the first day the car didn't start, they would have let me rent a car at the cost price from Enterprise next door, and Honda would have reimbursed it.
By the way, I did some research on this and it's just my guess but it might have something to do with Obama's stimulas plan because I saw something like "loan to battery manufacturers" in the breakdown of the package. In an article I found that there's only one company in US manufacturing car batteries. Since Honda Fit batteries are 100% imported from Japan, it might explain why Honda was not able to ship batteries into US...

Glad to hear your car is finally fixed!

I called another dealership and they had a battery, so I was able to get mine replaced a few days ago.

It's really shocking how much overseas manufacturing capacity we rely on, isn't it? Let's hope we stay on good terms with Japan.

Tampa Gal - your problem is probably the heat. Batteries hate extreme heat as much as extreme cold. I had a Jetta battery die on the hottest day of the summer. I think because it's so small, it's more susceptible to all of the problems everyone's had. They should not have put such a tiny battery in there, but that also seems to be the same reason why no one can find aftermarket brands carrying one that will work. In another thread a while back I'd come across this link to a compatible battery and thankfully bookmarked it. I had a problem starting once this winter and they tested my battery as Good, mid 300's, and it's been fine since then. Given the lack of replacement batts I'm starting to think I should buy one and whenever it comes in, store it until mine dies for real. It will probably be fast and unexpected as always. Anyone know if battery life would decay significantly if stored for an extended period?

The battery in my fit died last week. I drive it all the time, in fact, I have got in Jan. 26, 2008 and on Jan. 30 I had 18,000+ miles with the battery died. I live in So. California and extreme cold and heat are not a problem, nor is it because car was sitting and not being driven - as well as, I haven't had any problems with my car. However, on Jan. 30 I was on lunch and making a stop at the Post Office when I sat in my car for about 5 to 10 minutes with the engine off but the air on and everything fine until I got out of the car and noticed that the alarm sounded weak. But I when ahead into the post office and when I came out my car was died and wouldn't start. So, I had AAA come out and jump it - which it started right up. Ran it for about 30 minutes went back to work and then left work for my second job and it started up fine. Now, my second job was about an hour away so the battery had plenty of time to recharge, however, after sitting for 5 hours while I was at second job - it was died again. Twice in one day I had to have AAA out to jump the car. And then of in the morning it had to be jumped in order to take it to the dealership. So, now I like everyone else am waiting for a new battery to come in. I told the dealership this is not why I bought a new car - I bought a new car so I can drive it and not break down or be stuck somewhere. I hope the new batteries are better.

Hmmm 2008 Fit with original baby wet cell. 15,000 miles Mine gets tortured every day with P&G at night. Coasting with lights on for up to 2 mins. At a stop light I kill the head lights, but leave parking light on w/ eng still off. My Scan Gauge is watched like an Eagle and I make changes to the load (radio, lighting and even use of stop lights) or running engine if I see it fall below 11.2V. Maybe this day in and day out work out is helping mine or maybe I just doomed it by talking it up. lol

I've only had my '07 for about 2 months - but I'm not super impressed with the battery. It hasn't died on me, but it's pretty sluggish on cold mornings, so this thread doesn't surprise me. Certainly nowhere near as durable as the OEM battery that was in my Prelude - that damn thing lasted 10 years & 160,000 miles before it finally konked out on me.

Anyway, for the Fit I'm looking at a little Deka battery as a replacement . . .

I have a 08 Fit Sport with about 24500 miles. The battery died on me two times already this month and today it completely crapped out on me. It would crank but the car wouldn't start at all. Tried jumping and everything but it wouldn't work. i had to finally tow the car home. I did go to Honda a week earlier to have both my alternator and battery tested and they said it was fine. Now i don't know what to try other than to some how bring it in under warranty. Is there anything else I should try before bringing it in?

(I didn't know if it was the right place to post.)

Pretty sure I read that they don't have one that "fits" yet. You'd have to do some rearranging in there...

It's covered with a 3 year warranty I believe. They should replace it.

The towing costs may be another story. The only other thing they'll tell you is make sure your clutch is depressing fully. Take the carpet out, even if it's OEM, and then try starting. If still totally dead, get it towed in and don't leave without a new battery. The car does you no good if you can't drive it.

Sounds like anyone sitting 2 to 3 years out from purchase needs to keep an eye on this problem.
