Ipod Integration on 2008 Base Fit

I've had my 2008 Base Fit for over a year now and the only complaint I have is the lack of Ipod integration. I've looked into getting a new stereo, but the Neo (Neo Car Audio :: The leader in OEM integration.) seems to be the best/cheapest options (even though it isn't cheap). FM transmitters don't work for me since reception is horrible with the few that I have tried.

The cost for the Neo is just under $200 and installation is $80/hour (and I was told that it will take 1 hour to 1.5 hours to install). However, it can't be that hard for me to do it myself.

So, I have two questions.

1. Is the Neo the best choice or does anyone have a better idea?

2. How hard is it to install. Does anyone have instructions/diagrams on how to take out the current stereo? All I can find are diagrams for the 2007 model.

Thanks,

wilbr

you should be able to buy an OEM Sport stereo from someone here who has installed an aftermarket unit. Try the for sale, etc.(don't remember the name) forum.

And you would need to buy the OEM aux jack and connect it. I'm not sure if you'd get the wiring for the aux jack with the OEM stereo. You may need to build your own cable. You can also build your own cable and connect the aux jack to the base head unit. There are threads on this.

You can buy the aux jack here: http://www.myhondapartsstore.com/myh...1=&inputstate=

Thanks for the responses. OEM sport stereo or seeing if I can put in an aux jack makes sense. I'll do the research. Thanks again!

I helped another fitfreaker install an Ipod control unit in about 20 minutes. The base and sport stereos all have a CD changer port. That port can be used for a number of aftermarket add ons and can be accessed without pulling the HU if your hands aren't too big. Here's the thread on my install of an mp3 player/aux port unit using the CD changer port on the back of the HU:

He used a "USA Spec" Honda Ipod adapter. This unit was better than a simple aux port because it gave some control over the Ipod via the stereo controls.

Doesn't the base stereo have an aux button? if so you could probably just get the OEM jack and wire it to the back of your HU.

I just found this and it may help you

I am most likely going to go with the aux jack method since it seems not too difficult, affordable, and won't limit the car to the Ipod. Thanks for everyone's hard work in solving my one problem with the Fit. Excellent instructions too!

To do the AUX wiring mod, you have to pull the HU. It's not a simple job on these cars. Many who have done it here also reported broken clips but many have done it reasonably successfully as well.

The CD changer port can be accessed without pulling the HU. The whole install can be done in less than 20 minutes.

The wiring mod for an AUX port will be considerably cheaper since basic materials can probably be had for less than $20. My MP3 player was $100, takes SD cards/USB memory sticks and included an aux port as well. The Ipod adapter runs around $60 or $70 IIRC.

Do you want to trade 2 hours or more of your time to save $40-60? For some that's a wise trade others not so wise.

I have this that I used in my car. It worked fine in my car, I finally upgraded to an aftermarket stereo though.

Is this what you bought?

eBay Motors: MP3 Car player for HONDA-Accord,Civic,FRV,Fit,City (item 370162160994 end time Feb-24-09 11:14:36 PST)

I think that I might go for this option since it seems easy enough, not too pricey, and it doesn't restrict me to an Ipod.

Interstate526 - I am also curious about what you have for sale. What is the brand/make if what you have? I can't make out all the words on he pic.

Yes, that's the one. They have a blue tooth option too if you look around a bit. The sound quality is great and it holds a ton of songs. A couple of cautions:

1. Track title does not show up on the HU. This makes it hard to find a particular song if you have a lot of them.
2. Does not work with SDHC cards. USB flash is a better option anyway so not a biggie.
3. Not a name brand. Don't look for fancy instruction manuals or technical support.
4. Most of the HU controls work but not all - you can't FF or RW within a track. All the other features (RND, RPT, SCAN etc.) work.

Other features are listed in my thread.
