I'm getting my Fit tinted right now!!!
yeah, we both knew that it was illegal but he did it anyways. he was the only one that was willing to tint my fronts, no questions asked, he even gave me a discount cuz it was the day after my birthday LOL. all the other tint shops were being hella ***, and their prices were really high for having such a messy ass car shop.
There shouldn't ever be any debate on what tint is legal where - it's easy information to find . . . Auto Window Tint Laws - TintCenter.com In CA, only as dark as 70% on the front windows, and any darkness you want on the rears.
That said, just because 1% tint is legal on your rear windows, that doesn't mean it's a good idea to have it that dark . . . or that you won't get unwanted attention from the police.

Check any site you want, they all say the same thing.
because even though i'm currently illegal, i'd still like to see out of my front windows.
lol that's why I love CT. I have 20% all around and I got pulled over for speeding a few weeks ago and he got mad at me for having yellow fog lights (said they were illegal and that my license plate cover was also illegal) said nothing about my windows.
With one of these...
Tint laws vary by state and just how pissed the cop is about having to be at work that day. Although not listed on the Tint Center website, in Kentucky it is legal to have your rear window completely opaque, provided that you have functional side-view mirrors. My tint is 38% front/18% rear. I thought I'd want something lighter, but it came out looking pretty decent.
IMHO, the front 'wing' windows don't serve any purpose whatsoever. It's not like you can see anything useful out of them.

(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:
(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.
(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the installing company and the material's manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material's manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed according to manufacturer's instructions meets the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the material's manufacturer by full name and street address.
(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.

In other words: you can have film which, when applied to a window, allows a total minimum of 70% visible light transmittance. Putting 70% VLT film on a window that is tinted from the factory, however, would be verboten. Also, according to this subsection, paragraph four, you must also have proof that your tint is legal...
The table of contents, BTW, is here.

I think you hit the nail on the head where I highlighted. Don't give them a ration of s**t and they won't bother you about other things.
Yes, Officer.
No, Officer.
Won't happen again, Officer. (You won't catch me again.)

Thank you, Officer.
Works for me. Of course, the last time I was pulled over in a car was 8 years (250,000+ miles) ago. I've been pulled over three times in the bus in the last 14 years and 1,000,000+ miles of driving, and two of those were for BS reasons. Tickets in buses are costly. 62 in a 55 construction zone was $135 plus court costs/driving school costs. That one, I deserved. The cop could have cut me some slack since I only sped up in the last 500 feet of the zone, but he was technically right. The other ticket I got was for $25 for going to slow... Like I said, bullsh**t.
We have cops who work as security guards at the station, and the ones who work traffic have clued me in on something. If they have to pull you over they're already pissed, and you're getting a ticket. Just keep your mouth shut and take it. Giving them a reason to write more tickets will just piss them off even more. Writing tickets means paperwork for them (don't get me started on quotas. Yes, they do exist) If you decide to fight the ticket, they have to do even more paperwork and then come to court where you'll probably lose anyway because the officer is also considered an officer of the court.
Cops usually know the tint laws, but it's rare that they carry a spectrophotometer in the car. It's up to you to prove that the tint is legal. Most decent shops won't install illegal tint in the first place. The shop that I had mine done in won't even install on the windshield, even though that is legal in Kentuck. They did put a sticker on the door frame showing where it was installed and that it met the Kentucky vehicle code at the time of installation.
I ran 5% in the back half and 35% in the front half, and then I had the tint shop use black vinyl over the dot matrix where the rear view is. Then had them use 5% for the visor. Its really dark, and looks even. No issues with cops because the back is so dark and you can see the front is lighter. Yours you could get a ticket for the lil tiny windows being 5%, its retarded. All you have to do is say you went with darkest legal tint and they told you its 5% in the back and 70% in the front, but the rear makes it look darker. Just knowing that is the legal limit they will be like **** IT, and say drive safely now...
