*help* broken plastic piece on ebrake

Hi guys. So ive seen many threads about the little plastic tab at the bottom of the ebrake snapping off. But it seems that most of the time, its only happened in cold weather. Well it happened to me yesterday. I know the warranty does cover it. But i was wondering if they will find a way to not cover the broken piece under warranty because i have the T1R shiftboot and T1R ebrake cover? Would they try to void the warranty to replace that piece just because i've removed the center console to install the boots? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!@

They can only void your warranty if they can prove that the aftermarket part caused the failure of the OE part. And if its covered by the T1R why worry about it anyway? The piece they put in is only gonna break again down the road....

its that little plastic/rubber tab at the bottom of the ebrake lever. The one that goes down into the center console when you put the ebrake down.

actually the ebrake cover doesnt cover that part. it only covers the ebrake cover up to that plastic piece. The plastic piece still sticks out. But you're right, it probably will just break again. but i thought it was weird how most people who have had this piece break on them only live in cold weather states. I live in socal so I never thought it would happen. LOL

I never realized the T1R wouldn't cover that far down. Dammit I guess that means I'm not getting one. Maybe I'll engineer a solution for all of us and become fabulously wealthy......

Dude, just because its cheap doesn't mean I feel like tearing my console out every six months and replacing the damn thing. Its rather unlike Honda to screw up a little detail like that. I would rather come up with something that will last, even if that means spending quite a bit more than the measly two bucks for an OE replacement.

well, you dont have to rip apart your console to get the part out or put it in. it takes a total of ten seconds to take the old one out and put a new one in, and that two dollars would be a lot less of a hassle to pay than going through your dealer to get a warranty claim on it. i dunno. maybe im just not a nickel and dimer like some people on here. i have two dollars in change sitting right in front of me. just seems fickle to me.

its like when dennys was giving out free grand slams and people were waiting in line for four hours just for a free five dollar plate of food. its dumb to me.

but i am a fan or re-engineering parts. i just think its needless to go through your warranty for it.

LOL. I'm not talking about the plastic insert piece for the center console. You know that little black plastic piece at the bottom of the ebrake handle. If you follow the underside of the ebrake all the way down to the console, its that black piece that comes up when you pull the brake up. The piece thats attached to the actual ebrake.

*edit* im talking about the plastic flat piece under the ebrake handle. http://www.hondapartscheap.com/south...t=0&quantity=0
its the one that every one that lives in the cold has broken. lol

and you're right kelso. If i was trying to go through warranty just to replace the $2 dollar piece that you're talking about, i'd have to kick my own ass. haha. but i dont think the piece im talking about has a seperate part#. You may have to buy a whole new ebrake lever/handle

I highly doubt you'd get that covered under warranty. It was your own fault for breaking it. That being, said I broke mine as well but I just pieced it back together.

yeah i didnt break it myself though. I just noticed it was broken over the weekend. But ive seen alot of other threads about this piece breaking too, so apparently its not an uncommon thing. Other members have said that the piece has broken again even after getting it replaced under warranty. I just dont know if they will try to not honor the warranty because i have aftermarket parts that required me to remove the center console. The dealership might try to pin it on me that i broke it. lol

yeah but i dont think they sell it seprately. i might have to get the whole lever. i went to the local dealership to try to get a little plastic round thingy that goes in the shifter assembly because i broke it doing the T1R quick shifter install. And there was no part# for it, only for the whole shifter assembly. So i ended up buying a oem shifter assembly off another member that had the mugen SS. Its kinda dumb because I'm sure Honda has a huge bag full of those little plastic rings just lying around somewhere. LOL

^^Probably so. Kelso I wasn't advocating going through warranty for that little dumb ass thing. I'm actually trying to come up with some kind of replacement that would be cheap and easy for almost anyone to do, as this is a common item with the GD. Like the OP I just kinda realized one day that the plastic had ripped off the bottom of the e-brake lever and now when I have my E-brake on you're staring at the sheetmetal under the console. Its a little tiny simple thing but it irks the ish out of me when I'm confronted by it every time I climb in the car. I'm thinking like a fabric piece that could be hot glued or velcroed across the underside of the console or something along those lines....

I had mine done under warranty. They didn't even question the fact that I had a JDM center console.

What are you saying to the dealers to get them to replace it under warranty?

Just that the part has a proclivity for breaking in cold weather. I also told him about the numerous people on here that experienced the same thing.

Edit: I am also much more cautious in cold weather and let the e-brake down more slowly to avoid a repeat.
