Rattle from console

Hey guys. It’s been a while. I have noticed that there is a rattling noise coming from the upper portion of my console. I.e. the side closest to the firewall under the dash.

Upon further inspection, I notice that on the passenger side of the console there is a loose and slightly lopsided screw.

I tried tightening the thing but it just keeps turning and turning. I think the threads were stripped or something. I have no idea how in the world that happened since I don't do much work on my vehicle outside what the dealership does for me.

Any one have any recommendations on tackling this, or where I can get a replacement part.

a little background: I have a 2010 honda fit sport. The car is a little over a year old. I debating bringing it into the dealership for possible repairs under warranty.

Dash rattle isn't that uncommon with the Fit. I had one in our then new 09. Yes, it is a warranty issue and I would definetly take it back to the dealer.

I have an appointment set for today. I am certain the loose screw is contributing to it. I now notice that there is a very fragile plastic cover below the glove compartment. It does not feel sturdy.

I suspect this is causing the majority of the noise.

The mechanic tells me that it was actually related to a service bulletin. Gah!! I feel so stupid. The reason why no one was answering was because it was posted many times.

Anyway, the problem was a loose mounting bolt on the left side of the passenger seat. In addition to that, he placed a piece of tape under one of the plastic tabs below the glove compartment panel. The part still looks flimsy, but I suppose there is not much that can be done about it.

The mechanic did not have the service bulletin number on hand. I did a quick search pulled up some info:

2010 Honda Fit Seats Service Bulletin 74239

NHTSA: Action Number: 10036955 Service Bulletin Number: 74239

2010 Honda Fit Seats Service Bulletin 74240

NHTSA: Action Number: 10037013 Service Bulletin Number: 74240
  • Report Date:

I got this from Service Bulletin 74240 for Honda SEATS | AutoMD

Man this was an easy quick fix. That rattle drove me nuts until I tightened up that seat bolt.
