Dash rattles - roll call!

So I've got three really annoying intermittent dash rattles--one in the center, one on the driver door, one on the passenger side near the windshield. They come and go and it's been very hard to isolate, but I'm thinking I'll ask the dealership to open up my dash and try to secure any wires/trim pieces that might be touching each other.

Very pissed that my new car with 4k miles has so many obnoxious rattles! We all know that Honda has good mechanical quality but the build quality just doesn't seem up to par considering just how many Fit owners I've met have rattles so soon. My mom's Prius, a MUCH more mechanically complicated vehicle, has 70,000 miles and not a single rattle ever!

Come on Honda get this right! So who else here has rattles in their Fit? And did anyone find a way to fix them?

Just wait a little while. I had the same center dash rattle from the lower section when new, and it went away. No lie. First car that has ever healed itself.

I have never had an issue of rattling in dashboard so far in my 1 year old Jazz.

Except just after I had installed my new AVN system (Audio-Video-Navigation). But that was my own fault. Because I had not put the lead for the VSS firmly it started to rattle. But that was quickly fixed by a little plastic strip.

No dash rattles I can detect. 1800 miles so far.

The solution?

upgrade to louder exhaust.:rotf l:

Noisy Extreme Performance tires also work but it's more subtle.

I only get rattles when it is under 45° inside the car. Usually after blasting the defroster for a few minutes the rattles disappear. I am guessing the plastic they are using shrinks in the cold or that the rubber isolators in the dash panels harden up in cold weather.

Heh. Yeah my Falkens tend to drown out rattles but some are still stubborn. Luckily it is finally getting warm out, I always drive with the windows down when it's above 50.

My 2008 Fit Sport has a very obnoxious rattle in the dash just above the instrument cluster. I can't see how adding foam to the edges of the panel would help this in any way. I think it's just cheap plastic in an otherwise excellent vehicle. I'm simply going to live the the rattles and trade this vehicle for a Toyota at the earliest moment. I don't care what it costs me. The rattle is just too irritating to live with. I am VERY disappointed in Honda as I expected more from them. I also expected more from the myriad of journalists who reviewed this vehicle with nary a single mention of this irritating and frustrating problem.

Oh and one more thing, the Fit's mileage is worse than my old '97 Civic DX. How can a lighter car, with a smaller, less powerful engine get less gas mileage? My mileage in town in miserable compared to my old Civic and it's not much better on the road. This is 11 years of Honda progress? Give me a break!

I've never had a dash rattle. But I live in Houston, and it's rare it gets cold. If the dash rattle is caused by the temperature, my city doesn't give it much of a chance.

I get great gas mileage too.

Maybe I was blessed by the Honda gods...

I've found that the #1 variable determining if I hear the dash rattle is the outside temperature. In general, the colder it is ----> the more rattles.

If you don't care what it cost you, why dont you take it in to a repair shop and make them get the rattles go away?? It can be fixed you know?

But you probably don't like the car anyway....
