I listened to all the Alpines, all the Infinitys, one Pioneer, and a Kenwood. To me, the $104 2 way Alpines sounded the best, they might have had a small mid-range notch at the crossover point and that helped smooth them out a little. I don't think anything had an amp except the subs. The EQ must have been set flat, nothing sounded good to my ears.

The search continues.

ah that's why. go to a place that actually has stuff set up proper. if its not amped, co-axes sound better than components so u NEED to go somewhere with everything amplified

In all fairness to every company mentioned, the sales person at Best Buy was as nice as she could be, but she didn't really know much about audio.

The spec sheets listed on the boxes didn't help much either. They listed certain specs but without the important qualifications. I was able to see a 30db roll off between 35 and 100. That is huge.

I think a small sub with dual voice coils will work best for me.

Thanks for all your input.

how "small" are u thinking? a single ten in something decent like a premier or a jl should be more than enough to shake your fit... I'm not a fan of any smaller personally. the only advantage to small is crisper but if u buy the right larger sub it's just as crisp but louder and deeper

Most of what I listen to is classic rock. I don't need much to fill in the missing low end. I am not looking to raise the roof with low end thump.

In my other car I have a one pair of Pioneer 4X6s and that 100 watt powered Bazooka with a old Sony deck. I have the Bazooka turned to about 2 or 3. I think for a car rig, it sounds good enough. (Before anyone gags on my car set up let me mention I have hugh JBL L-300 speakers tri-amped with all Crown components at home. I know what $10K sounds like, so I cut a $300 200 watt rig a lot of slack.)

I am going back to what I know. I am going to put another 100 watt 6" dual voice coil Bazooka in. I will keep you posted on the install which I am also going to do myself.

Thanks for all your input.

I also listen to mainly classic rock. I listen to my music flat and it is deff missing a bit on the low end, but I am also not looking to rattle the car to pieces. I hate when people think that louder is better, I am just going for a balanced sound.

I went in to get a quote from a shop and the cheapest was $1000 out of three options the guy gave me. I cant see myself spending that much on a 15k car.

$1000 for a sub and amp? if so that's not that bad. u can do it cheaper with good stuff if u look for deals. eg, I had a $400 Premier champion series sub i picked up for $80 cause it was old stock. run a sony amp. sure they're garbage compared to a similarily powered amp but they cost about 1/4 of similar amps. then run a decent sub and boxes are cheap. you can probably rig up something decent for about $500 easily

Since the sport's speakers aren't bad I got a JVC Arsenal HU with HD Radio.

Pretty happy with it. With the right EQ setting no need for anything else..well, for me.
