Question 'Pop' noise

My 2007 Fit is making these irritating popping noises when I'm accelerating slowly in 1st gear usually around 2-5 mph and also when I'm braking close to a stop (around 5 mph). It sounds like it's coming from underneath the car (either the suspension or brakes?). It pops only once upon acceleration and once upon deceleration. Sounds like 'tok'. I went over some bumps pretty hard a few weeks ago. I also have 17" wheels. Does anyone else have this problem? I wonder what is causing it and whether or not it's covered under warranty.

could be the endlink. check the torque on the nuts.

also could be your front strut. check the torque on the top nut.

i think it's your suspension or chassis making the noise, not your
brakes.

I kno theres a pop when u brake on cold brakes. not that it comes from the brake being cold but i think cuz the parts are stationary. after everything moves though it goes away.

According to the manual, there is a noise that occurs occasionally on a cold start. My Fit has done this since day one, and it sounds exactly like what you described; A sort of pop or creaking sound that seems to come from the suspension. Mine does it the first time I accelerate in 1st to drive off after I back up out of my driveway in the morning. The manual states that it's completely normal and comes from something self-checking if I remember correctly

There was another thread on this recently..... I got use to the noise and thought it had quit, but after reading about it I noticed that it is still there after over 23000 miles.... It probably wouldn't be noticed at all if the front suspension wasn't so close to the front seats....You can always lower your car and eliminate that noise but then your dash would rattle and the front lip would start looking like hell.

I only started noticing this noise about 2-3 weeks ago. Definitely, something's not right down there (seems to be getting a bit worse as it always pops within that 3-10 mph range both when I'm accelerating and decelerating). I will have it checked out during my next oil change.

popping noise

So that minor popping noise progressed to a major banging/thudding noise yesterday. I had to take it in to the dealer for repairs. Turns out that the lugs in the front left wheels were loose. The dealer asked me if I had taken it in for some work recently. I replied that the last time I brought it in was in early May when they rotated the tires. So the dealer suspects that someone tried to steal the front wheel.
However, I have special lugs in my wheels that can only be taken out using a spline adapter. I suspect that the dealer did not tighten the lugs tight enough during the last visit and that they loosened up over time. And the dealer even charged me a fee ($105) for their diagnosis since it's a 'non warranty repair'!

damnit! i was gonna say check your lug nuts! damnit

that happened to me a few times, and the symtoms you described told me lug nuts. And NO, no one tried to steal the front wheel. you need to retorque your wheels from time to time. That was his way of trying to say "it wasn't our fault"

You might want to check your axle universals as well. One ciould be fractured from that hard bumps and sets when you get going.
Try starting forward and backward to see if each change in direction exhibits that 'pop'.
Unless there's other damage indicting you it should be in limits of warranty.

Now I'm a little concerned that the loose rims may have caused some damage to the car. I had to drive around 35 km back to the dealer with the loose rims banging. The dealer said they checked the suspension, took the car for a test drive and there are no other problems. Hope that they are right!

nah, probably no other issues. I drove to and from work one day (80 miles round trip) with loose lugs after a motor swap in my integra...no issues. you'll be fine

Loose lug nuts will damage the threads on the lug bolts. Check the threads and even 'chase' them with female thread die to make sure they are good. And make sure when you torque the nuts to 95 lb-ft that they hold tight.
We don't associate a popping noise with a loose wheel either. Its the 'wobble' that gets our attention.
