squeak when releasing brakes

The car is a month old, but from the moment I drove it off of the lot it made a small squeak when I released the brakes if I was fully stopped at the time. No other noises, the brakes work fine, just when I'm releasing them after coming to a full stop.

Has anyone had a similar experience? It's under warranty so I'm taking it in to have it looked at.

I get the noise when shifting from reverse to drive, mostly when I back out of the driveway. I time my release on the brake to minimise it. Seems to be a widley accepted noise that has no indication of malfunction, but not a nice noise just the same. It's a quirk that doesn't bother me any longer. I really think it's just the pads. Who knows. But I do not get noise every time I take my foot off the brake, that's for sure. If you get any hard answers or fixes, give us the skinny.

The tech I spoke with said that it's due to two main reasons.

1. The transmission/engine twisting as I first go into gear.
2. The brake pads on my old '99 Saturn were a different material, and now that they've dropped asbestos there's more metal in the brakes now, resulting in a little more noise.

He confirmed that it's an annoyance/noise issue only, and there's nothing to be done.

the tech didn't hypothesize rear drum brake? that's what my initial guess would be from the symptoms you shared. it's just a noise though, no worries. i think you can use some lube to make it go away if you take the rear drum apart.

i'm pretty sure it's not the transmission. i'm guessing you drive an auto? put it in neutral and try stepping on and off the brakes with your windows down. make sure your ebrake is down too, so do this on relatively flat ground, like in your garage. if you still hear the squeak when you let off the pedal, i'm pretty sure it's just the rear drum. if it's the rear drum, let this be an example of why, in my opinion, it's always better to pose your automotive questions to a local, trusted mechanic rather than a dealership technician (if that is indeed where your tech was from).

you can google 'drum brake squeak' and fix the noise if it bothers you.

exact same thing happens to me, but i have an 07 MT Fit. I know it's my left rear drum, just haven't taken the time to check it out. I am guessing there's a possible build up of dust. Bugs me though.

No, the noise was from up front.

Yeah, I tested that before seeing Honda, and there was no noise when in neutral. It mainly happened when releasing in drive. Releasing in neutral didn't do anything.

If it changes or bothers me, I have a mechanic that I trust that I can run it by, but since the car is brand new I wanted to see if there was any warranty issue before having anyone dig into it at cost.

I have 07 AT and my left rear is making the 'peep' every time I let go of the brake. It even makes the noise when I let go of the parking brake. It's kinda loud, almost like it need lubrication or something. It makes your car look cheap.
Do I have to clean the drum unit?
