very werd. both my FitS's brake like regular cars. the only time it grabs violently is after rain or carwash. but most of the time it's very progressive and easy to modulate.

it might be that some of you guys drive AT's and do not have the foot control most MT guys have.

You're right. Topping off fluid between brake pad changes will lead to spilling when you change the pads. It's still true that if you top it off your brake pedal will feel cushier and people may prefer that as it helps you have better control over the pedal.

Sorry to disappoint but I've driven both cars as well as have had 3 manual cars (Integra/240sx/MR2). I know how to downshift/engine brake to a stop, do it on the Sport AT all the time. Problem is I have the same problem as the OP. Sometimes it bites and sometimes it doesn't. My friends MT Fit doesn't have this issue, and he wondered wtf was going on when he drove mine. Screwy problem, not sure if my warranty will cover it though, since I can't reproduce it over and over.

really? ive never experienced that. heck my brake fluid is almost always at the MAX on the bottle. brakes feel no different at MIN...unless you got air in the system. then even at MAX your pedal will still feel mushy.

Well the problem I have is it's intermittent. Sometimes I have great pedal feel. Sometimes I have to floor it before it bites. I have not touched the system, I have checked my pads however. Pads are still great, pedal feel is intermittent =/

hummm....sounds like your master/slave cylinder is prematurely wearing out. it's also possible that your front pads are ok, but your rear drums worn out.

have it checked.

Thing is would warranty allow for this? They might just pin it on my 30k use. I've had this problem since day 1 =/

if you would've taken it in earlier probably but those cylinders are wear items so maybe not. hummm...if it was like that from day one might be just air in the system.

I had a pinched line in my old Prelude that felt similar, but it was ALL the time. As others have said, sometimes the Fit's pedal feel is perfect, other times it's almost impossible to modulate.

my 07 fit is the same way as well. very grabby on initial bite. i thought it might be the pad type. i'm definately going to try different pads on the next change (which shouldn't be long as the rotors seemed to have warped very slightly). i actually hauled 1000lb of cargo in the back and the brakes felt normal... go figure.

another weird thing is that the brakes will sometimes give a little while braking. so you'll be braking and then the pedal will drop a 1/4inch suddenly and then you have firm pedal again! almost like you develop a very small leak in the line and then it stops. disconcerting to say the least... this only happens occasionally and i don't know what could be causing this.

Sounds like a failing seal. Usually, brake and clutch master cylinders have two seals on the shaft. The second seal is a backup for the first. If fluid leaks past the first, there should be a little give before the second seal pressurizes.

I'd inspect all the hydraulics for signs of leaks - look for dark stains or other signs of fluid around the brake calipers and master. Next, I'd bleed the brakes to make sure this wasn't as simple as air in the lines. Finally, I would tear into the master cylinder and see if a seal had gone bad. Once the master's start to leak, it means either both seals are bad or the bore of the cylinder is worn.

Me too. Weird so many people are experiencing the same symptoms. Either we're just oversensitive or they're something going on?
Hmmm...
