questions about first oil change

Hey guys, I tried searching but couldn't seem to find anything about my question. I was driving back to school and the wrench icon came up just as I reached my house and it said the oil life was at 15%. I figure that means I need an oil change, but I probably won't have time to go back home until the middle of February and I was wondering if adding a few more miles onto my car would damage it. I'd probably just use my car to get groceries or something. The reason I'm waiting until I go home is I have the free oil change voucher from the dealership, and I don't really use my car all that much so any advice? Thanks!

Why not use the voucher around your area that is a Honda dealership?

You can drive it until the percent reaches zero. I think in the manual it says if you continue to drive it with the oil life at 0%, the computer will store the info and the system need to be reset at a dealership (the usual reset process you can do on your own will not work). Basically, if you run it too long on bad oil Honda keeps a record and will probably blame you for any future engine problems.

As for the question SHOULD you drive it, I don't see why not, up to the 5% warning. I wouldn't go longer past that.

Also, where's your hometown? Are you driving the Fit back home? If so, don't forget to take those miles into account.

save the voucher for another oil change. if you use it now, you'll still have to pay for an oil change eventually.....right?

and I have driven past the 0% warning once. no big deal. dealer didnt even comment on it.

yep, especially if you're running synthetic like me, it will usually outlast wat the meter says.

gimme's right on the button, save your voucher and have a quick lube change the oil if you can't. Think about it is it really worth the worry for a 20.00 oil change and filter? It takes 5/20 oil and if you see 'em trying to put a Frame oil filter on your car DON'T let them! they are the worst on the market, Wix is a good filter manufacturer. And another benifit to fresh oil is the gas milage will go up.
Keep in mind too short trips around town is always considered sever duty, this has to do with the engine heat cycles and not letting the engine come up to temp and stay there for X amount of time.

change your oil and filter keep a clean air filter in your intake and in the cabin too. If you keep the maintenice up on the car you own, it will be a lot less likely to let you down.

Once the MM reaches 15%, you have about 1000 miles before it reaches zero. If you go over a few miles, you should be alright. I would reset the MM when it gets to 5% to prevent a logging of a missed oil change.

I always change both of our Fits oil with full synthetic at 3000 miles or around 50%, but I'm crazy like that.
