Vinyl Tint on GD3 Tail Lights

Is it possible use vinyl tint on the GD3 factory tail lights since there is a bulge from the turn/backup light? I would like the whole tail light to have a light smoke tint and not just the red parts. Anyone tried this yet?

I have heard one of us using black paint( from his VW) thinned out alot like 10-1 or more it looked like smoked tint. Let dry and polished out looked great, and he only did the part you mentioned. I think he used an air brush to apply.

OR you could by VHT Nightshades, but realistically I would go with some LaminX and have it professionally installed. That way you have the option of removing it if need be.

Thanks for the replies. Im guessing that the only way to do this DIY is with a spray on tint. I want a light smoke to the tails and head lights and do not mind it being permanent since it probably would not be an issue with police. Has anyone have issues with the spray on method? Any chipping or peeling?

I just tried the spray and it is hard to control the consistency for a light shade. I ended up removing the paint from the tail light and have ordered the vinyl from metrodecal.com. I am going to give it a shot in doing the whole tail light in one piece. Hopefully i get lucky.

its a pain to tint probably anything non flat...id say 4 hands work best, since you have to stretch the thing pretty much while pulling without braking and of course, giving it contour and shape. Heating the vinyl helps

Try this... apparently it works well!

Lamin-x Protective Films - Protect with Style

Look under the "Color Protective Films" section/list to the left near the bottom of the page. Obviously they have many different kinds and colors of vinyl for tails, etc.

Hope that helps.

just finished the tail lights and it came out ok. not the best, but i can live with it til it starts fading and then ill replace them. i had to use three pieces to cover the whole tail light (top, side, and center/bottom piece for the GD3 tails). seams were at areas that had a crevice so it concealed them better. next is the headlights. anyone have any tips to tackle this

Found a website called Rvinyl.com they do tail lights, head lights, pre-cut window tinting, and clear protective vinyl for hood and front bumper.
