mouse borked my recirculate flapper

Help!

About a week ago, mice got into my 2008 Fit and now the recirculate flapper won't move to the Recirculate position. I'm assuming they put mouse-nest stuff in there somewhere that is jamming it - but in where and what can I take apart to find the nest and remove it?

I love my Fit, but I live out in the country, and sometimes I drive past places where I don't want that outside air for a mile or so.

If you open your glove box all the way and pull it down you should be able to see the A/C cables under there. If there's no problem in there follow them to where they come out in the engine bay and inspect there.

Thanks for saving me a service visit.

Once I pulled the glove box and got the cabin air filter out, a huge mouse nest fell out, so large it clogged my shop vac. Plus one dead mouse, apparently very surprised to learn that the fan rotated, urg.

And now my recirc. flapper works beautifully again.

That's some cabin insulation/soundproofing that will never be useful again. Yuck. I HATE mice.

Damn, you do live out in the sticks! Put some baits around your car that'll fix the little buggers....

If by bait you mean poison, noooooo, don't ever put out mouse poison in your Fit!

I learned this in my Honda Odyssey: if you put poison out in your car, mice eat it and die in the car. Somewhere inaccessible.

If you use mouse traps, then at least you can get the dead mouse out of the car.

Did I ever mention hating mice? I hate mice.

No no, not in the car, around the car! Hell no would i want to scrape a sploded mouse out of my Fit. Glue traps are a Godsend against the little bastards, put some peanut butter on em and they can't stay away!

I had a problem with rats that ate a vacuum line under my hood.....I bought some garden deer and rodent spray that repels critters and spray it under the hood every so often and it works well.

Interestingly, the critters no longer try to keep warm on my Fit engine since I put on the T1R intake. Still need a solution for the truck. No nesting, thankfully, just transients.

That is so freakin gross. My dad uses dryer sheets to keep the mice away...just shove a few where they won't get blown out.

If you can handle the odor of cat urine it will keep anything and anyone from coming near your car and yourself if you have been handling it... There are old ladies all over the place that have lots of cats that would love to let you change their cat boxes and you could process and concentrate the active ingredients and sell it to others here on fitfreak with rodent problems.

1.Take a 5-gallon bucket and fill it half way with water.
2.Take a hanger and straighten it.
3. Put the hanger through a empty soda can.
4. Attach the hanger across the bucket and put peanut butter on the can.
5. Collect dead mice from the bucket.
6. ???
7. Profit!

But seriously, make a contraption like that and you can kill quite a few mice. The mice are drawn to the can, it spins them off and they drown.

Before PETA gets on me, I was a vegetarian for 13 years.

I had mice chew on some wire casings, but not the actual wires quite recently. I looked up that spray Texas Coyote told me about and it costs about $20. Told my story to anyone irl who would listen and received feedback about:

- the dryer sheets mentioned above.
- people who use Tobasco sauce to repel animals from trash bins. Bought a bottle of that for $1, plus another $1 for a spray bottle. Cut it 50/50 with water and we'll see how it works.

Wow $20.00 !!! I think I paid about $8 or so and it has lasted for years.... Capsicum from any kind of hot sauce should get the job done.... Habanaro peppers have the highest content but they are crazy high priced now.... They are what pepper sprays are made of and the ones developed at Texas A&M for that purpose will cause blisters if handled without wearing thick rubber gloves..... I hope the Tobasco works for you, let us know if it does because I am getting low on the stuff I have and I sure don't want to pay $20.00 .

The dryer sheets work. My dad puts them in the engine bay/under dash of his personal truck that is parked 90% of the time (drives work truck). Used to always have nests, haven't had one since. The smell is overbearing in a small area like that, they can't stand it.

Under the hood wouldn't bother me but under the dash would run me out.... I can't sleep on sheets that have been dried using those things, allergic to them I think.
