A rodent made a hole in air filter box

I have 2009 Honda Fit. A rodent made a nest in the engine air filter and chewed a small hole in the bottom of the air filter box. As the hole is in the bottom of the box (1/2" across) any air coming into the box will still go thru the filter before entering the engine. Is leaving the hole open going to cause any issues?

Is hotter engine air entering the intake system going to cause any issues?

Thanks!

Piece of duct tape should fill that hole, or a piece of plastic super glued on.

I had the same problem but a raccoon got stuck in the belt and got all twisted up. It was a terrible sight and the smell....OH MY GOD..... its been a few months and i have used about 25 black ice pine tree air fresheners and still not having any luck with that smell.

i would use aluminum foil tape to close the hole. go to your local hardware store. use a few layers.

while there, get a box of DCon. kill the rodents.

Dcon doesn't work for raccoon's unfortunately. I've tried all different brands and it doesnt seem to effect them the slightest.

+1 on the aluminum tape. The hole wont affect your motor. Isn't air going to filter originally routed from engine air? Its been 2 weeks since ive purchased Steiner and ive honestly haven't popped my hood yet. <_< i know...prob not the smartest take.

The only thing may be more noise other than that nothing adverse will happen to the engine.

They sell REAL duct tape at home repair places that isn't the common stuff they call duct tape that is made from cloth covered in plastic.

The real duct tape is thin metal foil with a peel off paper backer that is used for real work on real ducts for A/C works and will last forever compared to what they now call duct tape that will seperate and degrade after awhile.

If you want to keep pests from coming back you need to use moth balls. Don't drive with them under your hood though. The fumes are deathly toxic! I put some in a sock and tied a string around it. You can easily sling the moth ball sock in and out of the engine bay or just leave it under your front end when not driving. Nothing will live in there with moth balls. Also, don't let your pet or children near them. Deathly Toxic!

Aluminum tape (AKA speed tape) will work fine. However, with as many people are swapping out their air boxes for cone filters, I'm sure you could get a used air box on the cheap.
