Exclamation Problem: Gearbox lock & tail LED light gone off {Help}

Hi All,

May I ask for your kind help...

I drive GD3 2002 FIT, 1500cc. The problem is when I start up the engine succeed, but the gearbox found lock when I press on the brake! The gearbox can't change from "P" mode to "D" mode. At the same time, I find the tail brake light is keeping off even I press on the brake by foot... The driver ring's "Bow" signal out of order too.

Can anyone help me? I really haven't any idea! Does fuse broken or sensor down or.... else. Pls advise.

Check your brake light switch...

Joe,
Check your brake light switch. It might be broken, not connected, or not adjusted correctly. That would be the first place that I would look.

Hi Macbuddy,
Thanks for your help. As this car is my first car, I'm not familiar with the car details.
Would you mind to tell me where can I locate the brake light switch?
At present, I only can change the gearbox from "P" to "any" by insert a key on shift lock switch!

Present symptom:
- Can't change gearbox mode from "P" to "any" when press on brake by foot
- Tail brake light not work when press on brake by foot
- Driver ring "bow" not work

thks.

It is probably your fuse. This happened to my girlfriend's car. It's a safety measure to keep you from driving without brake lights. You can override it by lifting the little plastic piece by the shifter (it's a small little cut out, where you can pick it out with a key) and pressing down into the hole while changing gears at the same time. So, check your fuse for the tail lights and if that doesn't fix it, it's something to do with wiring I'm sure.

Hey Joe. AS a safety feature, if your brake lights are out for any reason, the gearbox will automatically not allow you to shift. It is a safety feature built into the car. I would check your fuses under the drivers side panel, where that pocket is. Look for the fuse that says Brake Lights and check to see if it's not blown, but most likely it is. Replace it and ur fine.

Thanks all helper~ I had located the fuse number #16 under-hood Fuse box, so replace the fuse. It's good the tail brake light & gearbox working fine afterwards! But the fuse "15A" burn out when I press the horn. Does it mean the horn is damage or else electrical devise - short circuit???

I really learn a lot in this forum for my GD3!! Thanks all of you! ^.^

You might have shorted out the wiring on the headlight circuit, go check everything over. Sorry it's kinda late here, someone could probably help you more in a few hours.

Check wiring, and check to make sure a panel that was removed (if so) to access light bulbs wasn't pushed back on or a little plastic pin was pushed in to lock the access panel and pinched a wire. Sounds like you might just have something touching. Also, check the socket for the bulb you replaced and checked the wiring around it and make sure nothing's touching around the housing. Hope this Helps
