help with JDM tail light installation

hey all, this is my first post here. nice to meet you all

so i've just installed JDM tail lights onto my Fit. they were the Depo JDM smoked tail lights and i have a little problem.

my turn signal bulbs fit perfectly and the brake light connector works like a charm in the JDM housing but the backing-up light bulbs don't fit. i looked at the little tabs that fit into the slots and noticed that they are completely different (3 tabs versus 4 tab slot in housing).

so you see my little dilemma. i mean it's not too big a deal but on the off chance i try to back up in front of a cop and i get called on it, ehhh....

i'm trying to see if i can find the correct bulb (and connector if necessary) but i'm having a lot of trouble finding one, even on JDM sites. i'm willing to cut wires and splice if i have to, so please assist me in this matter

thanks in advance!

I just installed the same taillights as you - the bulb socket will fit, but you have to "customize" (aka trim) the taillight it to work. I fiddled around with mine for about 10 minutes, just looked at it & turned it different ways until I found a way to do it. Ended up cutting out maybe 3/4" of plastic from the taillight so the stock bulb socket would fit, and still lock in place when turned.

Hi, Where did you buy your depo jdm replica tail lights? I am looking to buy too.

Do you have a picture of what you are talking about?

Thank you

I dint have to do any trimming or modding to my JDM Honda taillights. I don't remember if the plugs were different but I do remember it was a snug fit.

Interested in how much you paid for the housings. Sounds like it just takes some extra time to get the bulb to fit.

I have the same JDM style smoked LED taillights made by Depo. Everything fit except the passenger side reverse light socket. I just lined up the 3 prongs on the light socket coming from the car and just clipped the one that wouldn't lineup correctly with some dykes. Popped it in and turned the socket the other way. It may not be as snug as the other ones, but it's not going to fall out either. I purchased mine on eBay for $105 + $25 for shipping (+ sales tax in Calfornia). They fit nice and are a quality product.

yeah on the real JDM tails it comes with the socket for the blinkers i believe

you have to cut the socket out of the USDM (secondary) top brake light and use that as the reverse

I don't get it - it's the same on both sides . . . I had to trim the same part on both the driver & passenger side.

Here's a picture of the stock taillight (reverse on the left, turn signal on the right):

I don't have an equivalent picture available of the Depo taillight, but on it, both the turn & reverse socket have 4 slots like the one on the right. So your stock 3-tab reverse light doesn't fit without modification.

If you could get a pic of the depo that would be great!
