Fit trade in value

This will make y'all smile, regarding the way a Fit retains value.

Bought the BOM in 4/06 was listed as a 2007 as it was a 2007 model.

33k miles 4.5 years later, everything works, routine servicing only.

Was offered a TRADE-IN price of 12.5k vs a diesel jetta wagon 2011.

Is this good ?

Your experiences on trade in ?

I would say that is a great value from a dealership to offer u as a tade in. Just if ur doing it never tell them up front about a trade in. If you do they will just tack on extra to the car ur trying to buy. Talk them all the way down u can on the car than say well im considering trading in my car. That way u get the best deal all around

assuming your fit is a sport, auto trans...... i plugged-in the numbers into edmunds and they say the trade in value of your car would be $11,412

kelley blue book says $11,025.

sounds like you got a good offer.

It is an auto with paddle shifters. In very good shape and yes I did put a new set of tires 5000 miles ago. But I was pleased with the offer.. although I didn't show it !!!

Don't let anybody kid you, used Fits are in demand.

Yea Fits used are almost more pricey than new ones. This is why i opted to buy a used XB vice antother Fit

Sounds like you got a great deal, but such low mileage after that many years is whats helping you. Plus, I would think they could resell a used fit easier then a vw wagon. I was told 10k trade in value for mine, 08 sport auto. KBB says 12k trade in value. 56k miles.

Since my Honda dealer couldn't keep any used Fits in stock, I'd have to believe their retail value holds up very well.

That depends on whether the trade was toward the sticker price, which I suspect it was. A legit wholesale on your car is about $8500 so he was using some of his profit margin to boost your trade value. All in all thats not bad.
When you're buying a car find the wholesale price (invoice) of the car you're looking to buy and your car. Take the difference and add anywhere from $500 to $1500 to find the difference you should pay, plus tax, tags, and license, and of course that dealer added profit called doc fees. The better dealers hold that to $100 or so, the crooks $500. Be sure to evaluate your car and 'new' car condition properly and corrected for mileage. Autotrader and Edmounds are good examples. That $500 to $1500 depends on how popular that car is.
Right now there are better deals on new cars than for used ones.

Sorry it took a while to come back. I bought the tdi jetta.

I miss the fit but needed something bigger.

I got the jetta 2k under sticker too, so no complaints in that department. Still can't believe a dealer gave me private sale money plus for it. It must be all about being at the right place at the right time. Oh and be willing to politely walk away if they don't come back with the right amount. Sometimes they do, especially if you have a Fit as a trade-in.

How do the two vehicles compare ? I think Jetta wagon is about 1000 lbs heavier but gives me around 36 mpg around town. Fit was easier to drive around but Jetta is fine, especially under acceleration, the turbo can make the tires squeal there is so much torque. The 6 spd autobox on the jetta is not as refined as the Honda box. No issues with the VW 3 months later, trust it will keep that up !

You did well, The jetta TDI is a nice machine specially in wagon form. My 08 Fit Sport has 20k but lots of bumper damage from city parking. If someone offered me 12.5K I'd sell it in a heart beat but for now it serves its purpose.

let's just say you did very well... i just bought a very very well condition 2007 BOM Fit Sport for a few hundred less than you were offered -- from a dealer!

I thought I was the one getting the good deal, as the sticker was almost 14k

I have the same mileage as you and the car is in tip top shape. To get $12k trade in is great. If I do decide to trade it in I know I won't be losing a lot of money. I bought mine used for only $15,900 with only 6500 miles on it. So I only loose very little. The Fits do hold their value very well.

I just traded mine in October, blue book value in New England was 10.5 (08 with 35K, everything clean and in working order). I was able to work them up to 11.5.
