Hey guys, I just wanted to post that I'm new to the forum and the Fit. I just bout a red 2007 Sport with an automatic transmission. I really wanted a manual, but my only options in the area were auto. I'm pretty happy with the car so far, although my gas mileage isn't as good as I had expected.

I drive pretty light and I've been averaging around 29mpg. I would say 85% of my driving is a 20-mile commute at around 60mph with two stop signs and one light. Based on many of the posts I read on here, I was expecting more like 35-36mpg. I bought it at a dealer for $9,500 before tax/title/etc, and the car had 81,000 miles on it. I know the milage is a little high, but it was owned by an older lady and had all of the maintenance done on time at the dealer, so I'm hoping to get a ton of miles out of it.

Back to fuel economy, the best I've received was 33mpg on the interstate 100% at 75mph on regular gas. The tires were low at around 22psi when I bought the car, but inflating to 40psi front/ 35psi back made NO difference in fuel economy. I know I would have gotten better gas milage with a manual transmission, but when I see members averaging over 40mpg, 29 seems pretty low. I live in Florida, and the temperature lately has been between 30-70. Should I expect much increase in fuel economy when the weather warms up? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think your mileage is right about on par. I get roughly 29/37

+rep for you for buying the sexiest Honda color there is. Did you get paddle shifters? If so try those you may be able to squeeze out 32-35mpg. Also a throttle controller will allow you to set the amount the throotle opens therefore giving you extra control of MPG. You can purchase one on the for sale section used for about $80 or new from merchant sale section for $150.

I have that exact same car...I've purchased mine from the dealer with only 13 miles on it. It's got 152,000 on the clock right now. I've kept records of every drop of gas it has ever gotten. I've only gotten only 29-mpg out of it. I've taken it to two different dealers complaining of gas milage. This was the first car I've ever owned (I've owned over 30 so far) that did not get at least the advertised city milage!

The biggest change in gas milage I got was when I asked for and got a "performance" wheel alignment. I had to pay for it...but well worth it. With Specialty Products shims for the rear and camber bolts for the front, I set the front camber to +0.1-degrees and 0.0-degrees toe and the rears at -0.5-degrees camber and +0.1-degrees toe in. This "performance" wheel alignment netted me 0.5-mpg...but my tires last a whole bunch longer also.

just chiming in with my 50k 08 5spd BOM fit. I dont remember ever getting below 30mpg, and have gotter over 38mpg plenty of times.

first couple of suggestions, tire pressure I've always had at 34 all around, even though the tires say max 50psi, and as far as speed you will get your best gas mileage between 60-70 any higher than 70 and the vtec will be eating your gas faster. at 70 my manual is at about 3200 rpm i think and if i remember correctly i heard vtec kicks in at 33 or 3400 but I've also heard 2500 and that seems super low and inefficient

congrats on a great purchase and dont sweat the mpg until you've gotten more familiar with how your specific car likes to be driven and tuned. i also use chevron gas because i think techron is the shiznit, and every so often 10k or so i add a bottle of 13 gallon fuel treatment chevron brand for 7 bucks or so

try changing your spark plugs and use some engine cleaner stuff (gumout, etc)

i just did that and the difference is night and day. i was getting about 29mpg too and on my first tank after tune up i've got 170mi on half a tank (best since purchase), looking at ~35mpg which is a great improvement.
