fit mpg - disappointed
Heres what the EPA has to say Gas Mileage of 2007 Honda Fit. Keep in mind high ethanol also lowers mpg and the reason for the compression increase.
Normally compression ratio with 87 octane would be no higher than 9.

yup i did use actual mileage, 216 miles on 8.6 gallons. now that's horrible for a fit. right now it's it's at 3/4 with 78 miles on it. i know the tank is smaller but my jetta's needle would still be at the full mark at that mileage. this is with mostly hwy. the last tank was some hwy and major traffic.
You also cannot compare one car's gas tank with another's.
In your instance with 50% highway and 50% dstop&go the mpg could be lower than usually expected for Fit.I have spent a day in raleigh meadering around the city and gotten 24 mpg. But usually I expected 30 mpg and 40 on the interstate.. If you spend a lot of time in 3rd and 4th gears 25 is certainly reasonable.
I have the same problem with my 08 fit mt. When I drove it I did drive a bit fast and got 215 miles when the gas light came on.
During my last fill up I drove like a granny shifting only at 2.5k and going no more than 65 mph on highway. Most my driving was 50/50 hwy and city. And the most I got was 250 miles till my gas light came on.
It's pretty strange to me that I can't vtec my car and get 30+ mpg.

See SilverBullet's recent post. The 31 mpg city figure is incorrect, which is the former EPA rating using the old test, which was revamped for 2008 onward. The new city rating is 27 mpg. I get around that much, but I have a Short Ram Intake & a bit of a lead foot.
The problem with mpg is short trips and the new clean gas. They(EPA/manufactures) are trying to figure out how to raise the mpg by using ethanol and paraffins and lowering the aromatics. The winter mpg is lower because of no aromatics in the gas and as the temps raise and summer gas is used it will go up. There also is a difference between conventional and RFG and between north and south. I read somewhere thats theres over 90 different blends across the USA and thats why my mpg is different from someone else's.

So how many gallons did it take to fill your tank ?
we got a customer here who comp[lained that he only got 225 miles before the lkow fuel light came on; howqever, it only took 7.1 gallons to fill. Thats 31.6 mpg. No more complaining about poor gas mileage. As usual the size of the gastank counts.

I just notice that gas needle drops down really fast compared to most cars I drove like a corolla, prelude, del sol. And I normally drove those cars with a heavy foot and more hills in the way.
But yeah hopefully after my first oil change my mpg might go up.
Interesting that you traveled 35 miles between the 1 gallon difference in 8.7 and 9.7 gallons. But like other posters have said, your mpg depends heavily on terrain and lead foot. I can get 25 mpg too if I play hard ball in traffic.
Lol yeah i live in sf a lot of my friends said the samething, but there's not much hills on my commute maybe I come across 2 hills most in a day. I go up really slow though.

My bad typo it was around 8.8 gallons.
Try different gasolines, the gas station on the corner might have more ethanol and with the heavier loads of the hills higher octane might help. Knock retard will lower mpg and use 0w20 oil on your next oil change too. It seems that Honda uses 0w20 as factory fill for 10 years in some of there cars. Thanks KC for that info.
